The wine association presented the international festival of pink wines to be held on April 21
The presentation and press conference was held on Thursday at the Gymnasium café in the Mimara Museum in Zagreb. The festival is due to take place in that very museum, and judging by the response, it will bring together numerous domestic and international producers of pink wines. Additionally, Green in Pink – a festival within a festival – will present producers of extra virgin olive oil.
The favorite wine manifestation for many will again be visited by professionals from the wine world, restaurant owners, sommeliers and experts, but also the increasingly numerous admirers of pink wine. Workshops at Pin Day are especially interesting as they regularly host at least one renowned international expert in wine or virgin olive oil. Last year it was one of the leading European experts on olive oil, Austrian Heinrich Zehetner, the year before it was Italian wine and oil sommelier Tiziano Cacciani, before him Laura Marinelli, co-author of the Floss Olei guide, as well as British exprts Judy Rudgeway who wrote several books on olive oil.
This year the guest from Spain, Carmen Sanchez Garcia, international expert for extra virgin olive oils, will hold a masterclass named “Time for EVOO…cation,” powered by American Express (EVOO – Extra Virgin Olive Oil). The workshop will include tasting of awarded Spanish oils Castillo de Canena, oils of famous wineries Sassicaia and Frescobaldi and chosen oils of Croatian presenters at Green in Pink.
There will be two wine workshops. One will be held by WOW member Monika Prović, a WSET 3, named “Pink Dalmatia,” powered by Lidl, with seven various rose wines of Dalmatia. The second will be held by experienced Rovinj sommelier Siniša Škaberna, and AIS 2, titled “Rose and Sweet: Yes or No?” powered by Dolcela.
Giving a preview of the festival, the press conference also offered a premier tasting of the first pink wine by Jasna Antunović Turk, Cuvee from 80% Pinot Nero and 20% Cabernet Franc. Also on offer was the Teta, a rose by the Prović winery which now has a new bottle and label. Both of these winemakers are WOW members, and Pink Day will also premiere the ‘feminine’ Bubbly Bar – by another WOW member, Tamara Domljanović, who has brought to Croatia the first bar on wheels, precisely a Piaggio three-wheeler – a mobile bar serving sparkling wines, Italian Prosecco, domestic sparklings, French champagnes and sparkling cocktails.
The merry mingling after Pink Day will continue with an official after party in the Time restaurant and bar, one of the favorite Zagreb destinations, in cooperation with the Acrobat company and the best-selling Provence rose Whispering Angel.
“I am truly pleased we have managed to keep this ink view of the world going for six years in a row, with the Festival becoming recognizable not only domestically, but also internationally, despite a sort of hyperinflation of wine events and festivals, with two of them taking place on the same day as Pink Day this year. I wish not to boast of my vision, but I must say I had mixed feelings – admiration, envy and a bit of anger – while following announcements for the phenomenal Just Rose festival taking place in May in Paris, when the entire French metropolis will be one with rose. My idea from the beginning was for Pink Day to outgrow a wine show and become a symbol of spring, pink thoughts, positivity; a festival of spring and – women, but also of pink wine and green olive oil,” said founder and director of Pink Day, journalist Sanja Muzaferija. She noted the consumption and demand for rose is growing significantly around the world, while the WOW association today numbers 170 members from across Croatia – who have a free entrance to Pink Day. Others will pay 150 kuna, and a pink piece of apparel is a must.
