Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović has three international visits scheduled in the next two weeks.

President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović will travel to the United States in December to meet with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, US officials and members of the Croatian diaspora, and she will also give a lecture at Tufts University, reports tportal.hr on November 25, 2017.

The visit to the United States will be the highlight of her international activities which will start with a visit to Austria on Monday, from where the President will travel directly to Iceland.

The President will be in the United States from 4 to 7 December and visit Boston, New York and Washington. According to unofficial information, this is a follow-up visit to her meeting with US President Donald Trump in Warsaw in July this year and to a recent phone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres about the situation in Southeast Europe. During her stay in the United States, the President will not meet with Donald Trump.

Grabar-Kitarović will start her visit in Boston. She will give a lecture at the Tufts University on the topic “Multidimensional Approach to Croatian Foreign Policy”. She will then travel to New York and meet with Guterres about the situation in Southeast Europe and Croatia’s neighbouring countries. In New York, the President will also have a meeting with prominent women at the UN and talk about empowering women.

She will then visit Washington, where she will continue her dialogue with the think-tank community, give a lecture, and hold a meeting at the Atlantic Council. It is expected that she will meet with politicians close to US President Trump and other officials. Grabar-Kitarović will also meet with representatives of the Croatian diaspora in the United States and mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Before visiting the United States, the President will travel to Austria and Iceland next week. In Austria, she will attend the opening of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s (UNIDO) general conference, meet with UN General Assembly President Miroslav Lajčak, and participate in a roundtable of women world leaders.

In Iceland, she will attend a meeting of the Council of Women World Leaders and give a lecture as part of the “We Can Do It” initiative. She will also meet with Icelandic President Gudni Johannesson, who is expected to visit Croatia next year.

While in Iceland, the President will meet with her Lithuanian and Estonian colleagues who are also active in the Council of Women World Leaders. The topics of discussion will be the activities of the Three Seas Initiative, and the President will also use the opportunity to lobby for Croatia's membership in the OECD.
