The Sinj Tourist Board, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, has organized an educational workshop "Traditional Pottery from Potravlje" in Sinj.
The traditional handmade pottery has the status of an intangible cultural asset since 2013, and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia has nominated it for the protection of UNESCO.
The art of making clay pots in this way has been preserved only in the village of Potravlje in the municipality of Hrvace, and in two families - Jure Knezović, where today’s pottery is made by his sons Ivan and Pile, and Jure’s brother Dušan Knezović.
It is of the utmost importance to preserve this segment of our traditional culture and enable it to continue by transferring the craft to younger generations. With the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, the Tourist Board of the City of Sinj aims to preserve this craft by hosting this workshop highlighting the pottery from Potravlje.
It is worth pointing out that the Sinj Tourist Board at the 4th International Congress of Historical Cities in Solin in March 2018 received the Plautilla Award for the ‘Best Cultural Tourism Product’ for the Educational Workshop "Traditional Pottery of Potravlje”.
This year's workshop will be held on October 19th (Friday) at 6 pm in the Sikirica gallery on the 3rd floor. The head of the workshop this year will be Mr. Ivan Knezović, who is among the last masters of this traditional craft. Workshop participants, if they wish, will be able to work independently in producing clay pots with the expert help of Mr. Ivan Knezović.
There will be souvenirs for all participants that will be distributed after the workshop is completed.
