Anti-Istanbul Convention Initiative Demands Extension of Referendum Campaign

ZAGREB, May 31, 2018 - The "Truth about the Istanbul Convention" civil initiative said on Wednesday it had asked the Public Administration Ministry for an additional 15 days for their signature-gathering campaign for a referendum to rescind the ratification of the convention because they were prevented from collecting signatures in some places.

Officials React to Possible Election System Referendum

ZAGREB, May 30, 2018 - After the "The People Decide" civic group said that it had collected enough signatures for a referendum to be held on changing the election system, Public Administration Minister Lovro Kuščević said on Wednesday that it would be established if enough signatures had been collected but that deciding in a referendum on minority rights was a sensitive issue.

Referendum Initiative to Sue Several Towns

ZAGREB, May 21, 2018 - The civil initiative The People Decide, which is collecting signatures to call a referendum on amendments to the Election Law, said on Monday that it was filing constitutional complaints against the town authorities of Rijeka and Samobor, claiming that they had denied their residents the right to express their opinion regarding the referendum and adding that it would sue the authorities in the towns of Zagreb, Osijek and Rijeka because they had charged a tax on the referendum.

Conservative NGOs Launch Referendum Campaign against Istanbul Convention

ZAGREB, March 15, 2018 - Activists of the civic initiative "Truth About the Istanbul Convention" said at a news conference on Thursday that they were launching a campaign for a referendum at which Croatians would say if they want the national parliament to refuse to ratify the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, the so-called Istanbul Convention.
