ZAGREB, August 2, 2018 - The Croatian government on Thursday decided to introduce, as of 2019, a higher tourist tax in the peak season, raising tourist taxes, paid per person per night, in all accommodation facilities except camping sites by approximately 25%.

ZAGREB, August 1, 2018 - Finance Minister Zdravko Marić said on Wednesday that proposed changes to the tax system would be presented to the public on Thursday and would take effect at the beginning of next year.

ZAGREB, August 1, 2018 - Ahead of a meeting of the ruling coalition on Wednesday regarding the tax reform, Speaker of Parliament Gordan Jandroković did not want to comment on speculation that citizens with average earnings would hardly benefit at all and said that it was necessary to ensure that the tax reform benefited as much as possible citizens with the lowest wages.

ZAGREB, July 31, 2018 - Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Monday evening, when asked by the press whether the general VAT rate would be reduced, that the tax burden on households and companies had been reduced by about four billion kuna (540 million euro) as part of the tax reform since 2017.

Despite the prime minister’s announcements, it seems that the government has decided against the reduction of the general VAT rate, which is among the highest in Europe.

ZAGREB, July 26, 2018 - The American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia (AmCham) on Wednesday said that it strongly supported the idea of further tax breaks in the Croatian economy, underscoring that tax reliefs would in the short-term positively impact competitiveness and would retain the labour force.

ZAGREB, July 6, 2018 - A lower VAT rate in the hospitality industry is not being discussed in current preparations for a new tax reform round set for 2019, but it will continue to be considered, Finance Minister Zdravko Marić said at a round table discussion on tax reform as a way of encouraging investments, organised by the Croatian Employers Association (HUP) in Zagreb on Thursday.
