September 17, 2020 - The latest news for flights to Croatia as Lufthansa announces Frankfurt-Rijeka in 2021.

Croatian Aviation reports that Germany's Lufthansa announced on Wednesday that it would introduce 14 new international routes from its base in Frankfurt in the summer flight schedule in 2021. Among others, the Frankfurt - Rijeka line is being introduced.

In the summer flight schedule, Lufthansa operates to five destinations in Croatia from Frankfurt: Zagreb, Pula, Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik, and from next summer season, the sixth destination in Croatia - Rijeka Airport will be added to the list.

On the line from Frankfurt, Ryanair used to operate to Rijeka, which moved its operations to Hahn this summer season, so Rijeka was without a direct flight with the main Frankfurt airport.

On the line between Frankfurt and Rijeka in the summer season of 2019, the German Condor also operated twice a week, but this year it did not launch that line due to the global pandemic. It will be interesting to see if this German airline returns to Rijeka in the 2021 season.

The new Lufthansa line will operate in the evening: departure from Frankfurt is scheduled for 17:35, and arrival in Rijeka at 19:00. The return flight will depart from Rijeka at 8 pm, while the arrival in Frankfurt is planned at 9:30 pm. The company leaves the possibility of adding more weekly flights on this route, which will primarily depend on the state of bookings. This company operates on the Munich - Rijeka route in the summer flight schedule, but this year it is not in traffic due to the impact of the global pandemic.

Tickets on this new line are already on sale on the Lufthansa website, and all tickets purchased through December 31 this year are flexible which means passengers are entitled to an unlimited number of travel date changes.

This is the third completely new line announced for next year's summer flight schedule. We remind you that Ryanair previously announced a new line Vienna - Pula, while TAP Portugal announced the introduction of the Lisbon - Zagreb line a few days ago.

July 27, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Pula, Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik. 

Croatian Aviation reports that German airline Lufthansa has announced its flight schedule for August, in which it plans to maintain operations to five Croatian airports: Zagreb, Pula, Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik. 

The company operated to destinations in Croatia with many more weekly flights last summer season, but this year, the number of destinations and flights themselves has been significantly reduced. The only Lufthansa line to Rijeka (Munich - Rijeka) was canceled, and the company did not resume traffic on the Frankfurt - Zagreb line either.

Through August, Lufthansa will operate from Munich and Frankfurt to Croatia according to the following schedule:

Frankfurt - Dubrovnik, 3 times a week (every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday)

Munich - Dubrovnik, 5 times a week (every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

Frankfurt - Split, 4 times a week (every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

Munich - Split, 5 times a week (every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

Frankfurt - Pula, 3 times a week (every Monday, Friday and Saturday)

Munich - Pula, 2 times a week (every Saturday and Sunday)

Frankfurt - Zadar, 3 times a week (every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday)

Munich - Zadar, 1 per week (every Saturday)

Munich - Zagreb, 4 times a week (every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday).

As we mentioned, Lufthansa has canceled the Munich - Rijeka line for this summer season, and currently has no plans to launch the Frankfurt - Zagreb line. Croatia Airlines operates on both mentioned lines. Until the end of August, Lufthansa will operate 30 weekly flights to five Croatian airports from two destinations in Germany: Munich and Frankfurt.

Furthermore, Croatian Aviation reports that Swiss and Edelweiss will continue to operate to three Croatian airports through August, in a significantly reduced flight schedule compared to the summer season 2019.

As confirmed by these two airlines, the number of weekly flights on flights to Croatia from Switzerland will not increase in August, but the companies have confirmed the flights and will operate on them safely.

This summer, Swiss has only one line to Croatia, the one between Geneva and Dubrovnik, which will operate only once a week in August, every Saturday, on an A220-300 aircraft with a capacity of 160 passengers. The line has been announced until the end of August and will most likely not be available in September.

Edelweiss operates towards Dubrovnik, Split and Pula, which it will continue to do next month.

The company operates on the line Zurich - Dubrovnik once a week, every Friday, while the line Zurich - Pula will continue to be maintained once a week, every Saturday. Larger capacity aircraft, type A320 (174 seats), operate on both routes.

The only line on which Edelweiss operates with a slightly larger number of weekly flights is the one between Zurich and Split. Namely, throughout August, the company will operate on this line 4 times a week (every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday).

Swiss used to operate between Zurich and Zagreb, but that line was canceled before the pandemic broke out. Today, only Croatia Airlines operates on the Zagreb - Zurich route.

July 10, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb and Brac. 

Croatian Aviation reports that German national airline Lufthansa launched traffic on the Munich-Zagreb route in early July, only three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but will soon increase the number of weekly flights on this route.

Lufthansa will increase the number of weekly flights between Zagreb and Munich from July 27. Namely, from the mentioned date, Lufthansa will operate 5 times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays) on this line.

Croatia Airlines operates on the same route every day, departing from Zagreb in the afternoon, and from July 21, they have a second daily flight on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

From July 27, Croatia Airlines should have two departures per day on this route every day of the week (a total of 14 flights per week), which, together with Lufthansa, provides 19 flights per week on this route.

This is still a smaller number of flights and seats offered compared to the period before the coronavirus crisis, given that Lufthansa also operated twice a day in the summer flight schedule on this route. Still, the company is likely to increase frequencies in August on this line further.

Lufthansa does not currently plan to launch the Frankfurt-Zagreb route, but in cooperation with Croatia Airlines, it offers connections to its network through a code-share agreement, as well as direct flights to this German city.

Furthermore, Croatian Aviation reports that German charter company Sundair announced the introduction of regular charter lines between Frankfurt and Brac from mid-July this year.

The Frankfurt-Brac line will run twice a week, every Monday and Friday, starting on July 17. Charter flights should be maintained on this route until the end of the summer flight schedule, on October 23 this year.

A319 aircraft have been announced on the route, which has between 150 and 156 seats in the fleet of this carrier.

We previously announced that Croatia Airlines would also introduce the A319 aircraft on this route, and thus perform charter flights to Linz and Graz.

June 3, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik, and Zadar.

As we announced earlier, Lufthansa will fly from Frankfurt to Dubrovnik and Pula from the end of June. However, Croatian Aviation announced today that the company published a modified flight schedule to destinations in Croatia, according to which Lufthansa normally operates in the summer flight schedule.

In addition to the reintroduction of the Frankfurt-Dubrovnik route, Lufthansa will operate again on the Munich-Dubrovnik route from June 20, once a week, every Saturday. A larger number of weekly flights is expected from the beginning of July when the company could fly on both routes (from Frankfurt and Munich) daily to Dubrovnik.

Lufthansa is returning to Split Airport, connecting this city with Frankfurt and Munich.

From June 20, the line Munich - Split will be introduced, once a week, every Saturday, and from June 27, the line Frankfurt - Split, also once a week, on Saturdays. As is the case with Dubrovnik, a number of weekly flights to Split Airport is expected from July.

On routes to Split and Dubrovnik, Lufthansa will use aircraft from the A320 family (A319, A320, A321) in accordance with the demand and booking on each flight. Smaller aircraft will be used on the route from Frankfurt to Pula.

Likely, the company will not launch other routes to Croatia (Zadar and Rijeka) in June, while the Munich-Zagreb route will most likely be launched by Croatia Airlines, with which Lufthansa has a code-share agreement.

Furthermore, Brussels Airlines previously announced that it would not fly to Zagreb and Zadar this summer season, but has retained the option of launching flights to Dubrovnik and Split.

Croatian Aviation reports that the airline announced a plan to resume regular operations to European destinations from June 15, and from June 27, the destination network will include the Brussels - Dubrovnik line.

The company will operate on the Brussels - Dubrovnik line twice a week, every Tuesday and Sunday, on an A320 aircraft with a capacity of 180 passengers in the fleet of this carrier.

The company plans to introduce regular flights on the Brussels - Split route from July, and at the beginning of next month, the company will increase the number of weekly flights to Dubrovnik (probably to four weeks). The flight schedule of this company for July has not been finalized yet, and when it is confirmed, we will publish the details.

Croatian Aviation also reports that Spanish airline Iberia has announced the resumption of its flights to destinations in Europe as well as those in the US. Among others, the company has included the Madrid-Dubrovnik route in its schedule.

The company normally operates to Zagreb, Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik from Madrid in the summer flight schedule, but in July, according to current announcements, it will only launch a line to Dubrovnik.

From mid-July, Iberia will operate on the Madrid-Dubrovnik - Madrid route 3 times a week, and announces daily flights from the beginning of August. The company has previously announced larger aircraft, the wide-body A332, but, likely, this type of aircraft will not be used on the route to Dubrovnik Airport this summer season, given that demand will be lower than planned before the pandemic.

The route will be operated by A321 aircraft, which has a capacity of 200 passengers in the Iberian fleet.

The company confirmed to us that the flight schedule for July has not yet been finalized, so the possibility of introducing lines from Madrid to Zagreb and Split is left, while the line Madrid - Zadar is expected from August.

Finally, Avio Radar reports that Czech airline Smartwings announced the resumption of flights on June 10. The first flight announced that day is from Prague to Split. The flight to Split will be followed by the launch of other routes, mainly to Greece and Bulgaria. 

The Prague-Split route will run twice a week in the first week, on Wednesday and Saturday. The second week of traffic will see an additional flight introduced on Monday, and from June 24, the line will operate daily. The Prague-Dubrovnik line has been announced from July 1, every day. From Poland, lines from Katowice and Warsaw to Split are on offer once a week, on Thursdays, from June 18. 

Charter lines are also planned, namely Ostrava-Split, on Saturdays from June 13 and Polish destinations Gdansk, Katowice, Poznan, and Warsaw to Dubrovnik from June 25 once a week, on Thursdays. 

Boeing 737-800 aircraft will fly on the routes, and smaller Boeing 737-700 aircraft or larger Boeing 737-900s can also fly. 

ZAGREB, July 29, 2019 - Croatia Airlines has extended two long-term contracts with Lufthansa Technik, one of the world's largest aircraft maintenance companies, which will continue to provide support to Croatia Airlines' Airbus fleet, the national carrier reported on Monday.

The contract for support for all components has been extended for seven years while the contract for support for drive units has been extended for a period of five years. Croatia Airlines has also become a user of Lufthansa Technik's Aviatar platform.

Croatia Airlines technical director Davor Bujan said that the company has been recognised in the world as a safe carrier thanks to its highly-skilled technical staff.

Lufthansa Technik's Senior Sales Executive Jens Henningsen underscored that the extended contracts once again reflect Croatia Airlines' trust in Lufthansa Technik.

In 2017, we celebrated 25 years of partnership and we are continuing our close cooperation aimed at achieving the highest level of reliability, efficiency and safety, Henningsen said.

Lufthansa Technik has been a partner in maintaining our aircraft since 1992 when, based on a contract of integrated technical support, it began to support our Boeing 737 fleet, said Davor Bujan.
