New 11.5m Euro Vitality Complex to Enhance Tourist Offer of Istria

By 9 March 2017

Barbariga in Istria will be getting a brand new resort with swimming pools, wellness facilities, and commercial premises…

On Wednesday evening during the last session of the City Council of Vodnjan, councilors unanimously accepted an offer and the conclusion of the treaty establishing the right to build on three urban plots in Barbariga. On the plots the company Barbariga Nova will construct a hotel and ancillary facilities, reports Poslovni.hr on March 9, 2017.

The plots have a total area 13,400 square meters in the south of the tourist resort Barbariga, and are 150 meters from the sea by Marić bay. CEO of Barabriga Nova, Vesna Glavić, announced the construction of a new four-star hotel, annex, and public and commercial facilities.

The investment for the new “Vitality Complex” is worth 11.5 million euro, and construction could begin at the end of the year. But the plan, said Glavić, is to build the complex next year.

“We noted that the coast lacks hotel facilities, and four years ago we started to buy land for the hotel but it was not enough so we approached the City of Vodnjan. In November 2013, we presented the project and received a positive response. Our goal is to have a year-round business, strengthened to the capacity of four-stars and equipped for congress tourism. We will raise the standard of tourist apartment services which will enhance the potential Barbariga settlement with 1,600 beds,” said Glavić. The company Barbariga Nova was the only bidder in the tender for the right to build.

The hotel will have around 130 rooms and suites, and an annex with 35 apartments. As the architect Nina Matika from the Pula company De Finni presented, the hotel would have 8,500 square meters of indoor space and an annex with 4,000 square meters. The hotel portion would have two 25-meter pools, both indoor and outdoor, a large wellness center and gym which would stay open year-round, and a congress hall with 300 seats. The restaurant would have a space for culinary performances and workshops, and between the hotel and annex there would be a market. The ground facilities would have approximately 1,500 square meters of commercial space that could be rented by local craftsmen and the like.

“The center will employ around 40 permanent employees and the number would be increased when the capacity increases to up to 58 employees,” concluded Glavić.
