Beer lovers, mark the second weekend in September on your calendars: the 3rd edition of the Medulin Craft Beer Festival is the place to be!
According to Glas Istre, the festival in Istria will see more than 30 craft breweries from 7 countries assembled under the motto Craft Beer Evolution '17.
At a press conference held on Monday, August 21, the organising team presented this year's programme. "After the craft beer revolution, we're now in a stage of craft evolution. Everybody knows about craft beer these days, and our festival will make sure to present the creme de la creme of craft. Even though Istria is better known as a wine region, these trends are slowly changing. Craft has become an integral part of life, and the audience can recognise good beer as well as a chance for fun, which is exactly what out festival will offer", said Srđan Polomčić, one of the organisers.
Mayor of Medulin Goran Buić also shared his excitement. "We're headed for the third festival, and I hope it's going to surpass the last year's edition, just like that one surpassed the festival in 2015. The municipality of Medulin has supported this project from day one, as we're trying to promote craft and the culture of enjoying premium craft products. Of course, we're also promoting our municipality through this event. I can't wait for the 10th anniversary of the festival!" said the mayor.
The manifestation is known as the best visited craft beer festival in Croatia, having seen more than 5.000 visitors who enjoyed quality craft beer last year. To make this year's edition even better and more appealing to beer lovers, the team invited 17 Croatian and 11 international breweries. They announced the visitors will get a chance to try the brand that holds the official title of the best beer in the world: the American Toppling Goliath. We'll also be able to try the Danish Amager, the Swedish Omnipolo... along with craft beers made by Croatian breweries who only started operating a couple of months ago.
Even though the Croatian craft scene is one of the youngest in Europe, the festival in Medulin ranks at the top of the European list, according to the renowned site Ratebeer.com. The first two editions introduced more than 500 brands produced in 15 countries. The audience award for the best beer went to Zmajska pivovara in 2015, followed by Prva viška pivovara in 2016.
As good beer need to be accompanied by great food, the restaurant Oasi will be taking care of the gourmet side of the festival. They announced a fine burger menu that will pair well with top-quality craft: burgers with boškarin meat, donkey meat, and tuna steak.
