Emirates to Launch Service from Zagreb to India?

By 10 September 2017

Emirates Zagreb might be getting an Indian boost, EX-YU aviation reports.

The recently launched Emirates’ service between Zagreb and Dubai has generated a strong interest on the Indian market, EX-YU Aviation reports on September 10, 2017.

The plan is also in line with the Croatian Ministry’s goals to secure long-haul flights from non-traditional markets. Minister Cappelli recently said "The Ministry's strategic goal is to develop Croatia as a destination which is accessible to various airlines, particularly before and after the height of the summer season. We are directing a part of our funds towards closer cooperation with carriers, which will result in more flights to all of our airports. We are turning towards the Far East and the Middle East".

Essa Ahmed, Emirates’ Vice President for India and Nepal said that Indian travellers have shown a great interest in travelling to locations where popular films or TV shows were filmed (Game of Thrones in Dubrovnik, for example).
Air India has recognised this trend and concluded a codeshare agreement with Croatia Airlines, and both carriers are members of Star Alliance.

The numbers just keep growing: 35,057 people from India visited Croatia in 2016, which is an increase of 77% when compared to 2015, and then there have been 27,514 arrivals and 61,135 overnight stays in the first six months of 2017, which is an increase of 85% and 75%, respectively.
