February 26, 2019 - TCN continues looking at the plans and expectations for Croatian airports in 2019, with updates from Pula, Rijeka, and Osijek, thanks to AvioRadar.
Pula Airport
Director of Pula airport, Svemir Radmilo, reveals that the expected number of passengers for Pula in 2019 is 750,000, with 11,000 expected operations, and 81,000,000 kuna in projected revenues and expenditures. Pula airport also plans 5,000,000 kuna for investments.
“The biggest part of the investment is for the expansion of the parking lot and the construction of a new rental car depot that should be completed by the end of this month. The completion of the project for expanding the existing buildings and new access lighting should be done next year, with works beginning already this year.
New lines this year include EasyJet from Amsterdam and Geneva, Laudamotion from Stuttgart, TUI from Doncaster, and Volotea from Bordeaux. From existing lines, we have extended the traffic on EasyJet, who will begin operations already in March from Berlin Tegel airport. Liverpool and London will start at the end of April or the beginning of May. Volotea from Nantes will begin from April 10, Transavia from Rotterdam from April 15, and so on,” concluded Radmilo.
Rijeka Airport
Tomislav Palalić, director of Rijeka airport, said that they are expecting 197,000 passengers this year with 5,800 operations. Expected revenues and expenditures are around 20,600,000 kuna while planned investments are 8,000,000 kuna.
“The investment amount of 7,157,153 kuna is related to the completion of the project for the reconstruction and extension of the outer surfaces of the terminal building and technical block (reconstruction of the facade), which will complete the final phase of reconstruction of the terminal building which started in 2012, when significant funds were invested in the interior decoration of the building.
In the last seven years, over 35 million kuna of capital assistance has been invested in the infrastructure development of the Rijeka airport, of which the Ministry of Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure, has invested 90%, while Primorje-Gorski Kotar County invested 10%. From the investments mentioned above in the terminal building, with the aim of meeting traffic safety standards, we plan to continue investing in the basic course of the RESA and USS levelling projects, as well as further investments in the modernisation of machinery and equipment.
After a record season and turnover growth of almost 30% compared to last year, Rijeka airport has confirmed four new carriers for the next season, including TUI, Volotea, Lufthansa, and Air Serbia, which will fly to three new destinations - London Gatwick, Marseille, and Belgrade.”
Osijek Airport
Davor Forgić of Osijek airport explained that they expect 74,357 passengers this year, which is an increase of 11%, 3,022 operations (+14%), and projected revenues and expenditures of 14,200,000 kuna.
“The largest and most important planned investments this year will be in reconstructing the passenger building. We will increase the passenger building, reorganize the existing facilities, enable passengers to be better informed with clearer communication, improve the heating and cooling the building, improve the energy efficiency of the building with lower maintenance costs, separate passengers on domestic and international lines, like in departures, LED lighting, and video supervision. Other investments relate to ensuring the level of safety and security in civil aviation, and we would like to buy de-icing equipment from the USS.”
