Ero s onoga svijeta: A Comic Opera in Vrlika this Weekend

By 1 August 2017

The Tourist Board of Vrlika, in cooperation with HNK Split, has organized a showing of the well-known opera “Ero s onoga svijeta” on August 4th.

“Ero s onoga svijeta,” which translates in English to “Ero the Joker,” is a comic opera in three acts by Jacob Gotovac, with a libretto by Milan Begović based on the folk tale. The opera was created at Vrlika Česma in the town of Vrlika, the birthplace of Milan Begović.

The opera has been performed since 1935 on more than 50 European stages. It has also been translated into 9 foreign languages. But when all is said and done, there is nowhere better to see the opera than the Vrlika česma which served as the inspiration for Begović and many others. The Vrilka Česma was and remains the most beautiful open-air stage for the performance of this opera.

This year's well-known tenor Miljenko Đuran will play the role of Ero to marks the 100th performance of the opera for the 10th time in Vrlika.

A not to miss spectacle on Friday, August 4th!
