St. Stephen’s Day just became a lot more exciting for those of you in the Vrlika area.
St. Stephen’s Day, traditionally celebrated on the 26th of December, is not just known as the day after Christmas. St. Stephen’s Day commemorates St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr or protomartyr.
Because it is a free day for all of us in Croatia, the Tourist Board of Vrlika and KUU Milan Begović have decided to present a very special program for ‘Garišta 2017’.
At precisely 13.00 at Garišta, Gornje Maovice, just west of Vrlika, everyone will gather for kolo dancing (circle dancing), singing, vuju - a type of game where participants form a circle and the first person, who carries a stick, points to someone in the circle and forces them to go to the end of the group - kamena s ramena (rock throwing), and of course, festive food and wonderful drinks.
An old custom that the people of Vrlika have traditionally joined each year on St. Stephen’s Day, won’t you come join this year’s festivities?
