If there’s one thing Klis is renowned for more than anything else it is most definitely the restaurants. However, most surprisingly, these restaurants are famous for just one thing on their menu and that is the mouth-watering lamb. Whole lambs are roasted slowly on a spit for hours at a time throughout the day meaning you never have to order in advance or wait too long to get your slice or kilo of the succulent, salty meat. Konobas (traditional Dalmatian wine cellars) also exist in Klis and along with pršut and cheese appetizers can also prepare a variety of peka dishes accompanied by fresh vegetable salads and perfectly roasted potatoes. As the name suggests, you are supplied with endless glasses of homemade wine and shots of rakija to help wash all the hearty goodness down. Considering most people in Klis grow their own vegetables and make their own pršut, cheese, bread, wine and rakija you can indulge guilt-free knowing that you’re being served the same high quality products used to feed their own families. At the konoba all that non-stop eating and drinking makes people so happy it’s not unusual for them to bust out in song. Traditional klapa or a cappella singing is a staple of the Dalmatian konoba party and prepare to be serenaded late into the night often with the help of an accordion and/ or guitar. No Klis konoba dinner party is complete without at least a little klapa and they usually stick to their favorites which means it won’t take long for you to learn a few lines and join in! Aside from the konoba, locals and visitors can also congregate at several cafe’s and bars around Klis. Oprah Bar right off the main road has an incredible view of Split and the Adriatic and also sits next to the Klis Free Riders motorcycle club. Local riders often gather there before or after their trip and fellow bikers from all over Europe make pit stops here to rest their weary bones along their journey through Croatia. If you’re looking for nightclubs you won’t find them in Klis, but Kameleon club is just a five minute drive away in nearby Solin or keep driving 10 minutes further to enjoy the array of nightlife in Split.
The Imotski gastronomic specialities are an important part of the tourist offer in the area. Along with the traditional dishes on the spit and under a baking lid (pod pekom), the most eminent prize is awarded to the best well-known cheese of the Dalmatian hinterland – the cheese from Studenci produced from full-fat cow’s milk from the north-western hilly part of Imotska krajina. In addition to its salty speciality, Imotski is well-known for its almond and walnut sweets. And apart from the Imotski (style) cake, a great popularity enjoy the so called rafijoli – cookies made out of dough stuffed with ground walnuts and almonds with a hint of additional flavouring.

Gastronomy - Known for delicious and unique dishes, the Town of Sinj and the Cetinska Krajina Region have been a true gourmet paradise. Apart from the arambaši of Sinj (rolls of pickled cabbage leaves stuffed with chopped meat), the ever-hospitable people of Sinj will be glad to offer other delicacies, such as frogs, crayfish, the Cetina trout, the rafioli of Sinj (traditional pastry) and many other specialties typical of the Dalmatian hinterland. Sinj has been an exceptional and highly esteemed place of good eating, owing to the fact that the Town’s rich history has joined the spirits of Mediterranean, Oriental and continental cuisine.
The traditional recipe for the arambaši - Chop very fine one kilogramme of beef. Make a mixture for roux (pešt) of 2 red onions (kapula), 4-5 cloves of garlic, 15 dag smoked bacon and half the tuft of parsley (petrisimul). Add pepper, salt, nutmeg and the grated peel of a lemon to meat and leave it for an hour. Make the rolls wrapping up the mixture of meat and spices in pickled cabbage leaves. Put a beef bone in the common cooking or earthenware pot (bakra) and cover it with finely cut up pickled cabbage. Add a spoon of tomato purée (konšerva). Then place the rolls, arambaši, in the pot and cover them with cut up pickled cabbage. You can also add a few homemade pork sausages (sudžuk), a piece of prosciutto or smoked beef. Then pour in enough water to cover the arambaši and simmer for 2 hours. Serve the arambaši with smoked and cured meat and mashed potatoes. Prepared in this way, and if kept in a cool place, the arambaši will keep over the following week.
