One of the many many events happening in Zagreb these days is Plac Mljac 2019 - starting on July 1st, and closing on July 7th. Zagreb Tourist Board compares Plac Mljac to London't Notting Hill, so you really need to find out what that's about, right?! What is Plac Mljac, you might ask, and how does one pronounce it? Well, as for the latter, just don't, if you…

June the 30th, 2019 - Lafodia is by far the most beautiful island getaway for all those who want to be close to, but also just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Dubrovnik, otherwise Croatia's most popular tourist destination, especially during the peak summer months when the city is at its most crowded. Lopud, the island on which Lafodia is situated, is a dream for everyone seeking respite surrounded by Mediterranean pine and stunning sea views. This hotel has it all, and we've written extensively on just what that entails. But what does it have in store…

Margareta's Summer 2019 Started in Bakar

We've recently written several articles about the re-birth of tourism in the Northern Croatian town of Bakar, and this weekend Total Croatia News got the opportunity to visit Bakar and see for ourselves what exactly is going on there, for the opening of the Margareta's Summer 2019. I was born and raised in Croatia, and when I was a kid my family had a summer home in Crikvenica (Bakar is located some 20 or so kilometres north of Crikvenica, right near the southern Rijeka suburbs). The road we took to Crikvenica from Zagreb back then went very close to Bakar,…

Why are Booking.com, AirBnB Croatian Occupancy Rates So Different?

June 27, 2019 - At the time of year when Croatian media focuses on how the season is going, some interesting discrepancies between Booking.com and AirBnB occupancy rates. So how is the season? How are bookings? Will 2019 be another record year to beat the record year of 2018, which beat the record year of 2017? The record year of 2020 will beat the record year of 2019, but how do things stand in the world of reality away from the Kingdom of Accidental Tourism? It is a topic I used to follow quite closely each summer, but not so…

Hot Air Ballooning in a Roman Amphitheatre: Pula Meets Varazdin County

An innovative tourism promotion from Varazdin County in one of Croatia's most versatile locations, as Croatian naive art is celebrated in hot air ballooning style in Pula on June 22, 2019. A rather unusual sight for Pula residents and tourists a few years ago, as the Pula Arena, the 6th largest Roman amphitheatre in the world, welcomed yet one more innovative tourism project.  The Arena, which has already hosted an ice hockey tournament, various concerts from the biggest name in music, and soon a match between legends of Croatia and Bayern Munich, welcomed an altogether different event a few days…

Valamar Riviera Announces Plans for Croatia's Largest Summer Resort in Poreč

The Supervisory Board of Valamar Riviera d.d. has already approved the upcoming annual investment cycle of 599 million kuna. Thus, Valamar continues its intensive investment strategy to raise the quality of its portfolios and services to high-value tourism, reports HRTurizam on June 27, 2019. Although significant, the investment cycle for 2020 is lower than in the previous years, and as highlighted by Valamar Riviera, it is because of the global slowdown in market demand and rising operating costs.
