Don´t Miss the Sinj Carnival Festival 2016 - This Saturday!!

The Annual Carnival Festival in Sinj is behind the corner. On Saturday, February 6, many villages from the Cetina area will participate in a costume parade in Sinj city to celebrate their long tradition of carnival customs.

According to Ferata.hr, the annual carnival parades of the villages around Sinj are on a list of the protected intangible cultural heritage of Croatia.

The Carnival parade is arranged by strict rules, based on tradition. The most interesting part of the parade are the "didi" (grandpas). They are parading according to strict rules, demonstrating strength, endurance and preservation of native traditions. They are wearing a 1,5 m long sheepskin and a waist bell, their old clothes are sewn with multicoloured ending.

Similar carnival traditions exist in other parts of Croatia and Europe and they embody the ritual fight of the good spirits with winter by making noise and jumping.

As we already announced, there will be 20 groups from all of the Cetina area and the noisy and colorful invasion will depart from the football pitch at 15.00 through Put Šumarije - Put Piketa - Miljenka Buljana Street to the bus station - Put Ferate - Kneza Branimira Street - Brnaška street to the Square of Kralja Tomislava. The main event at the pjaca should start at 15.30 and last until 18.00. Afterwards an entertainment program at the formere barracks Ivan Ivaniša Nelipića (19.00 - 24.00).

All welcome. Enjoy the 2nd Sinj Carnival Festival.

Trail Running in Sinj in Pictures

(photos: Cetina Adventure)

After Marjan in Split, Poljička Mountain, Klis, Omiš, the trail running league came to Sinj for the 5th round. Instead of paying the entry fee, the 93 participants collected money for a single mother of two children in a difficult financial situation. Start and finish was this time in the old town, on an ancient place where people of Sinj defeated the Turks. This place offers a beautiful view of Sinj and the Cetina region, don´t you think?

The path was 7,3 km long with a 300 m ascent and descent, marked with ribbons and arrows, so no orientation skills were required.

Here are the results, according to adrenalin.hr:

Women:

1. Katarina Kokan 41:35

2. Petra Koceić 43:48

3. Lucia Križanac 46:35

Men:

Therapeutic Riding Available in Sinj

(photo: ferata.hr)

Instead of walking and carrying children on their backs around Šibenik, the fortress Barona and St. Ivan and other locations, this handsome will carry children and young people in need for therapeutic riding at the Sinj hippodrome. A young Ante Juras from Šibenik decided to donate his horse called Indiano to Sinj to be used in therapeutic riding for children.

This gift was accepted with pleasure by the members of the Equestrian Club Alkar and so Indiano has found a new home at the Sinj racecourse. There is one condition though - as his previous owner Ante Juras requested, that the therapeutic riding done by Indiano should be free of charge.

According to Ferata.hr, besides Indiano, there is a mare called Camillin at the Sinj racecourse and with another horse to be purchased in the future, the planned riding school in Sinj could be open in a month. The school should be free of charge for children from Sinj city.
