Green Future Conference: Leading Behavioural Scientist Dr Fadi Makki Coming to Split

March 8, 2022 - More than 30 distinguished domestic and international speakers will share their knowledge and experiences on the green transition at the Green Future Conference held at the Croatian National Theatre in Split on June 9 and 10.

The Green Future Conference to be held on 9 and 10 June in Split will bring together some of the most important stakeholders on green transition, an inevitable and important process that has already begun and will mark the coming years and decades, in terms of environmental protection, e- mobility, energy, public policy, economy and business operations. The conference is therefore supported by the two largest Croatian technology companies, Rimac Group and Infobip.

More than 30 distinguished domestic and international speakers will share their knowledge and experiences on this topic at the Croatian National Theatre in Split. In addition to Matija Žulj (Agrivi), Federico Cristoforoni (Eutopia), Stephanie E. Trpkov (World Bank), Split mayor Ivica Puljak, four new speakers have confirmed their arrival.

Behavioural scientist Dr Fadi Makki has more than 25 years of experience in public and social policy concerning economic development, behavioural economics, social enterprise, healthcare, education, and sustainability. He leads the first unit for behavioural insights and incentives in the Middle East, B4Development, which is engaged in the preparation for the World Cup in Qatar where one of the main goals is to improve various aspects of the event that include behavioural components, such as transport and recycling. The goal is for Qatar to provide an optimal experience for approximately one million visitors expected during the championship. This is also the first time that behavioural science will be used during a large-scale event such as the World Cup.

Heliodor Macko is a successful businessman and technology enthusiast. He has been with SEAK since 2015, working as CEO on the development and internationalization of long-distance communication technology. In 2018, SEAK introduced charging stations for electric vehicles integrated with smart light poles, for which it received several international awards. Mr Macko believes this technology will help speed up the adoption of e-mobility globally, providing charging spots for people who park their cars on the streets.

"In order to achieve full energy independence in 2050, we must start acting now, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine is another reason to stop our dependence on fossil fuels as soon as possible. Achieving this by 2050 is not an easy task. We will need technological innovation, to change in industries and our habits, which can only be achieved through wise and rapid policy changes. Therefore, we must combine our best ideas, and this conference is just the place for it", said Heliodor Macko.

Laura Stäter is a passionate tourism professional with a strong focus on destination management and sustainability. She works as a marketing and public relations expert, as well as a PR and marketing manager for the Thai Tourist Board in the German market, providing as well advisory services to tourism companies that wish to base their business on sustainability.

"Green transition is extremely important in the context of tourism. Destinations are at risk due to climate change, the locals are under threat of pandemic, war, working conditions in supply chains, and animals are losing their habitat. Overtourism has had an adverse impact - the gap between rich and poor is widening, and only robust employees, habitats and businesses can survive in the long run. Sustainability is a long-term process and that is why at an event such as the Green Future Conference we need to inspire each other and find ways to foster a common understanding of sustainability and start acting immediately,” said Laura Stäter.

Josef Mouris is co-founder and CEO of ELECTRON Aviation and ELECTRON Aerospace. His love of aviation has been reflected in a career spanning more than two decades, and recently his commitment to tackling climate change has been reflected in a pioneering effort to develop affordable, CO2-free air transport on demand. As a professional air pilot, Josef has 15 years of flying experience at Flybe, the largest regional airline in Europe, and with about 23 years of glider piloting, private design of airfoils, propellers and electric aircraft, he leads the implementation of EV battery technology in the design and production of next-generation aircraft.

"The air traffic is responsible for more than 900 million tonnes of CO2 and is one of the fastest-growing emitters of greenhouse gases. While other sectors will shrink, aviation is likely to continue to grow, raising its share from 3% to more than 20% of all global emissions by 2050. If it does not change direction, it will crash. The Green Future Conference is one of many platforms that can help launch a green transition,” said Josef Mouris.

The Green Future Conference will be a centre for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, new technologies and solutions, but also innovative policies on green transition, a process that in the coming years and decades is an imperative for the economy of Croatia, the European Union and the rest of the world.

The conference agenda and all speakers will be presented on the official website of the conference in the coming period, and early bird tickets can be purchased until the end of March.

Rimac Technology Split Office to Open in Croatia's Tallest Skyscraper

March 8, 2022 - The new Rimac Technology Split office will open in the 135-meter-high Westgate tower, better known as "Dalmatia Tower", this summer.

This year, the tallest skyscraper in Croatia, the 135-meter-high Westgate tower, better known as "Dalmatia Tower", will be occupied by the most famous electric car company - "Rimac Technology", which will open a new office in Split, reports Slobodna Dalmacija

"Rimac Technology" is a sister company of the hitherto famous "Rimac Automobili", and the official opening of the office is planned for the summer.

"The new office we are moving into is the result of expanding our business and the need for new staff that we plan to hire in the coming period. We are currently renting one whole and an additional half floor in the tower, which should be enough to meet our business needs by the end of 2023. The office in Split will mostly be in charge of developing software solutions," Rimac Technology revealed.

The first development office in Split was opened in 2018, and today it has 41 employees. Moving to a larger space also means new jobs.

"We plan to employ about 60 people this year and next. Today we are present in Split with 41 employees, while the plan is to grow to a team of about 100 engineers by the end of next year, so we can continue to develop software solutions for the serial production of Nevera and other components for the automotive industry," explained Rimac.

The Dalmatia Tower is the tallest building in Croatia and one of the tallest in Europe. It is part of the Westgate project, which consists of two towers; the first Westgate Tower A, which has been the seat of the Management Board of Splitska Banka since 2016, today OTP banka and the second in which will house the new Marriot hotel and has 27 floors.

ITA Airways Flights to Dubrovnik and Split Announced for 2022 Summer

March 7, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as ITA Airways flights to Dubrovnik and Split have been announced in the 2022 summer schedule of the new airline.

New Italian airline ITA Airways has announced regular operations to Dubrovnik and Split airports, reports Croatian Aviation.

Just as was the case with Alitalia, ITA Airways is announcing two routes to Croatia in the upcoming summer flight schedule - from Rome to Split and Dubrovnik. The planned number of operations is almost identical to that of Alitalia, whose business was continued by ITA Airways.

The only difference is the type of aircraft. Namely, in the last summer seasons, Alitalia used mainly aircraft from the Embraer fleet to Croatia, while ITA Airways plans operations with aircraft from the A320 family, type A319 and A320, with a capacity of 144 to 180 seats.

The line between Split and Rome will run once a week, every Thursday through August, while the line to Dubrovnik will also run once a week through August, every Tuesday.

In addition to ITA Airways, other airlines operate on the route between Split, Dubrovnik, and Rome; Croatia Airlines, Spanish Vueling, and Hungarian Wizz Air.

The chances of ITA Airways appearing at other Croatian airports with scheduled flights are slim, especially after Ryanair introduced a scheduled flight between Zagreb and Rome, where Croatia Airlines already operates.

Tickets for these two routes are on sale on the airline's official website and start at 54 euros one way.

Recall, other new flights were announced to both Dubrovnik and Split airports this month. Namely, Flyr will operate between Oslo and Dubrovnik from June 13 , while Volotea has launched a new route between Lille and Split Airport, connecting the two cities from May 8 until October 9 this year.

Croatian Monte Carlo: New Kaštela Promenade Project to Change Face of Coast

March 5, 2022 - The new Kaštela promenade will transform the waterfront into the Croatian Monte Carlo, says Mayor Denis Ivanović.

Since the beginning of the first term, one of the main goals of the current city government has been clear. Along with caring for young people and building communal infrastructure, arranging the coastal part of Kaštela is the main priority, evidenced by millions of investments in the already unrecognizable, more than 20 kilometers long coast, located along the unique Kaštela Bay.

Kaštela is unique in many ways. It comprises seven villages, without a classic center, and is the only city in Croatia with six postcodes. It is probably the only one in the world directly bordering two UNESCO cities with the oldest, more than 1,500-year-old olive tree. It is a town with three football clubs, three fire brigades, three carnivals, and it will soon become the Croatian "Monte Carlo," a destination with nearly 20 kilometers of coastline as a prerequisite for the development of tourism and the economy.

On City Day, which is celebrated on March 4, Slobodna Dalmacija spoke with Denis Ivanović, the mayor of the second-largest city in Split-Dalmatia County, about the implemented projects but also those that will follow on the coastal part of Kaštela.

"Even before I became mayor, i.e., in the election campaign, I promised that the focus of my work would be landscaping. So naturally, this is a priority for city authorities and those at higher levels, from county to state. That we are going in the right direction is evidenced by the fact that an active project to build a new port and coast in Kaštel Stari is currently in the final stages despite the health crisis surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

This is the most financially expensive project of the County Port Authority since its existence, in which almost 15 million kuna was invested from our budget. At the same time, the rest of the funds were provided from the Split-Dalmatia County Port Authority and other sources. With this project, a breakwater almost 200 meters long was built. In addition, a total of 9,500 square meters of the coastal belt was arranged, including stonework, horticultural landscaping, and nautical electricity and water connections.

Through this project, the people of Kaštela will get 150 communal berths for the domicile population, i.e., for those who use boats for entertainment and sports, but also completely change the look of the Kaštel Stari old town," says Ivanović.

The investment is worth almost 50 million kuna. In addition to the 15 million from the city, the County Port Authority has allocated about 30 million kuna. The rest of the money was provided by Split-Dalmatia County, the state, and the Ministry of the Sea.

"This is truly the largest investment in the coastal part of Kaštela, and our goal is for residents to get a modern utility project that will serve them in the first place, as well as tourists from whom we live for a good part of the year.

"The project in Kaštel Stari will certainly affect economic development, and we are glad that all the work took place without any interruptions and delays. The arrangement of this communal port is one of the major projects in the past decade in the area of Kaštela," adds the mayor.

When asked what the next projects are for the coast, the mayor announced an investment boom with one goal: Kaštela will be the Croatian Monte Carlo.

"After we soon complete the new port and coast in Kaštel Stari, and it is a matter of days when that will happen, we will start with a new investment, which is the complete arrangement of the Kaštel Novi coast, from Kaštel Stari to the Ćipiko tower, worth about 50 million kuna, and the Ministry of the Sea and the Split-Dalmatia County are ready to help with financing.

This project will completely change the look of Donji Kaštela, which is why it is called the "New Face of Kaštela," emphasized Ivanović.

Namely, the planned project will significantly expand the existing waterfront into the sea, arrange the entire promenade and the city's coastal part, roads, various facilities, and horticulture.

"So, that part of Kaštela will take on a completely new look as Kaštel Lukšić did after we arranged and built the most beautiful and most expensive in our county - Glavica beach. We are in the process of doing the main project," says Ivanović and adds that the citizens enthusiastically accepted the newly renovated part of the Lukšić coast.

But that's not all. The town of Kaštela is preparing and arranging the coast in Kaštel Sućurac, Štafilić, and Gomilica.

"We have prepared a preliminary design for Kaštel Sućurac, for the area from Gojača to Sokolana, followed by preparing the main design, obtaining approval, and the start of work. In the fall, work should begin on the complete arrangement of the coast in Kaštel Štafilić, where part of the promenade has already been arranged.

With the completion of works in Kaštel Stari, then on the stretch to the Ćipiko and Štafilić towers, Donja Kaštela will undergo a complete coastal transformation, which, believe me, many will envy us," announces Ivanović and adds that a conceptual solution has been made for Kaštilca and Marina Kaštela.

"All this is proof that Kaštela is almost the most active area in terms of construction throughout the year, thanks to which the unique, almost 20 km long coast will be the most beautiful in this part of Dalmatia," concludes Mayor Denis Ivanović, congratulating all citizens on Kaštela Day.

A Smarter Future: Mayor Ivica Puljak Discusses Green City Action Plan Split

March 5, 2022 - Split Mayor Ivica Puljak attended an online meeting with the developers of the Green City Action Plan Split - European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and local and international consultants involved in drafting the Green City Action Plan Split (GCAP).

On that occasion, he pointed out the advantages of cooperation with the EBRD in developing such and similar "green" projects for the city of Split. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of drafting and implementing the plan in the context of improving the quality of life, environment, and climate change.

The City of Split joined the Green Cities program in October 2020, and the development of the GCAP officially began in April 2021. More than 40 European cities have been supported through the EBRD's Green Cities program since 2016, and a vital part of the program is the development of the Green City Action Plan (GCAP).

GCAP is tailored to the city to improve the quality of the environment and resilience to climate change and the well-being of citizens. GCAP achieves this by identifying, prioritizing, and linking the city’s environmental challenges to sustainable infrastructure investments and policy measures. To this end, the development of the GCAP is an inclusive process, while the Technical Expert Group (TEG) is key to its success.

The online discussion also served as an introductory meeting of the Technical Expert Group representatives with the GCAP developers. TEG members are appointed by representatives of various institutions, companies, and associations in the city of Split to give their expert contribution in the fields of environmental protection, urban infrastructure, economy, climate resilience, smart city, and other related industries relevant to the development and drafting a quality document. Through their inputs, members of the Technical Expert Group participate in crucial planning processes, including workshops and focus groups, and setting priorities and strategic objectives.

The GCAP will build on existing city plans and strategies to identify practical measures to improve the city that can be implemented over the next few years. In this context, GCAP will be harmonized with the "Strategy for the Development of the City of Split until 2030". Furthermore, the wide range of GCAP will help the City develop activities that provide multiple benefits in different urban sectors and attract financial investors who invest in green and sustainable investment projects.

GCAP is being developed with the support of donors TaiwanBusiness - EBRD Technical Assistance Fund.

Ryanair Pulls Zagreb-Lviv Line, New Volotea Lille-Split Line Announced

March 3, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Ryanair cancels its Zagreb-Lviv line, and Volotea announces a new line to Split this summer, connecting Lille and Split!

The new Ryanair line between Lviv and Zagreb is no longer on sale. As expected, Ryanair has suspended sales on flights to and from Ukraine due to Russia's invasion, reports Croatian Aviation

Ryanair announced the line between Lviv and Zagreb in mid-January this year and has plans to operate on it from the very beginning of the summer flight schedule - on March 27. Fights were planned twice a week, every Wednesday and Sunday.

The Irish airline closed sales on all routes from Lviv, including the announced route to Zagreb. A total of 22,320 seats were on sale, and Lviv was to be the second city in Ukraine with which Zagreb was to have a direct connection.

Ryanair has announced its return to Ukrainian airports as soon as security conditions allow.

Furthermore, Spanish low-cost airline Volotea has announced another new route to Split Airport this summer, reports Croatian Aviation.

Namely, Volotea, which has its bases not only in Spain, but also in France, Greece, and Italy, is introducing another new route to Split Airport this summer, regularly connecting Split and Lille, a city in northern France with more than 220,000 inhabitants.

The first flight on the new line has been announced for May 8, and flights will run every Sunday until October 9 this year.

A319 aircraft with a capacity of 156 passengers have been announced on the route, so Volotea will offer a total of 7,176 seats between the two cities this summer.

This is also the seventh destination of the Spanish airline from France to Split Airport. Tickets for flights from Split to Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Nice, and Toulouse are also on sale.

War in Ukraine Slows Down Travel Bookings in Split-Dalmatia County by 50%

March 3, 2022 - Travel bookings in Split-Dalmatia County have slowed down by almost 50% so far due to the war in Ukraine.

After the tourist market began to recover from the corona crisis, some six hundred kilometers from Croatia, Russia invaded Ukraine.

This will certainly affect guests coming from the Ukrainian and Russian markets. After all, Russian planes can no longer fly in most European countries, including Croatia. But what about the others? For now, it’s hard to say, but Dalmaciija Danas reveals that there could be a reduction in tourist arrivals from distant markets.

The Minister of Tourism and Sports, Nikolina Brnjac, held a coordination meeting with representatives of the largest hotel groups in Croatia. In addition, the possibilities of accommodating refugees from war-torn Ukraine were discussed.

The impact of this crisis on current bookings from the most important markets was also discussed at the meeting. A statement from the Ministry states that bookings are in a slight decline, but it is still good, and it is difficult to talk about estimates in this situation.

"We had already started the preparatory activities for this tourist year before these unpleasant events, and we will adjust them following the further development of this difficult situation, which we all hope will be completed as soon as possible," Brnjac concluded and added that promotional activities on the Russian market have been completely suspended.

Ukrainian tourists recorded 145,568 arrivals, and 857,482 overnight stays in Croatia last year, while Russian tourists achieved 145,592 arrivals and 800,979 overnight stays in 2021.

The Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board explained that the war in Ukraine slowed down tourist reservations by almost 50 percent, adding that only six days had passed since the war began, so it was too early to say from which markets the decline was most significant.

“During the pandemic, people learned how to behave in emergencies, so 'last-minute bookings' have become a common way of doing business in tourism. This means that if the war ends and the situation stabilizes, reservations will return very soon; that is, tourism will return to normal," the Tourist Board said.

Alijana Vukšić, director of the Split Tourist Board, said that the events in Ukraine would undoubtedly have consequences for the tourism sector.

"Especially when it comes to tourist traffic from distant markets in which travelers view Europe as a whole. How much impact it will leave on tourist traffic between European countries depends on the further course of events," she told Slobodna Dalmacija and added:

"Last year, more than ten thousand tourist arrivals were made by Russians in Split and more than six thousand tourist arrivals from Ukraine. However, it is difficult at this moment to predict the return of tourists from the mentioned markets because it will depend exclusively on the geopolitical situation, which we hope will stabilize as soon as possible," the director concluded.

Cafe Road Split: Authentic Cafes Loved by Locals

March the 4th, 2022 - Cafe road Split - A look at the authentic cafes in the city loved by Split locals.

As you already may know, drinking coffee is a very special ritual in Croatia and even more in the Dalmatia region. Going to a cafe to have a cup of coffee is an important part of a day in Dalmatia, and we use this ritual to read the news, meet friends, have meetings, and much more than that. If the time spent drinking coffee could be measured, we would probably be at the very top. We drink coffee on many different occasions, and it usually lasts much more than the time needed for actually drinking the coffee. We will never drink coffee while standing or “on the go”. In the Croatian language, there is one word for both a cafe and a bar or a pub and it is “kafić” or “kavana”, and this is not a coincidence. When we invite someone to grab a coffee with us, we are referring to a drink and not specifically to coffee, it could easily mean that we will grab a beer or any other drink. Therefore, I will use the word cafe as a synonym for both cafe and bar.

“Splićani” aka inhabitants of Split, adore drinking coffee and beer, almost every “Splićo” has their favorite place to drink coffee/beer. Even more than that, every “Splićo” probably has a particular cafe for different situations, such as going into the city center, when going to the sea, when watching a game, and usually one that he considers his “kvartovski” hood cafe. A hood cafe is somewhere close to his home, which “Splićo” uses as his other living room (“tinel”). Cafes in Split are urban meeting points, where various people gather and you can hear all sorts of different stories.

In this article, I will try to mention some cafes that are unique, authentic, and which have a long tradition in this beautiful pearl on the Adriatic coast. It is really difficult to choose the most authentic cafes in Split, and this list will probably be very subjective, and there is a high probability I will not include some cafes that probably should be on this list, so I apologize in advance.

  • Bellevue

Kavana Bellevue is located at the bottom of Split’s biggest town square Prokurative and is a part of the Hotel Bellevue. The cafe and Hotel were established 120 years ago. The long tradition, antique interior, and great location are some of the reasons why this cafe has a tremendous reputation among Split citizens. Bellevue is french for a beautiful view which this cafe certainly does include. Bellevue also appeared in the famous Split tv show "Velo Misto".

Bellevue-2_1.jpgBellevue_2.jpg

  • Basket

Basket was opened in 1973, and it is one of the most unique cafes in Split. It was opened by Josip Gracin and today it is run by his son Tomislav. It is located in the Ulica Domovinskog rata 42. Depending on when you come to Basket you will find two different forms of this beautiful place. In the morning and around lunch it is a perfect cafe to grab a coffee or do some work and it is usually not very crowded. In the evening, it is a different story, you will probably have trouble finding a spot and especially in their booths which are everyone's favorite spot. What is more, music is a great advantage of this place, especially if you know that the owner Tomislav is a musician. Music is also different in the first part of the day and then it changes as the day goes by accompanied by sporadic live performances.

  Basket_1.jpgBasketinjos.jpg

  • La Linea

La Linea is one of the oldest pubs in town. Split citizens still call it by its old name Taverna.  It is located behind the old city hall (Stara Gradska Vjećnica) near the city square Pjaca. It is a great spot for both morning coffee and an evening drink.La_Linea.jpg

  • Ave

Ave is located inside Diocletian's Palace at Rodrigina Ulica 4. It got its name after a famous roman salutation. It is run by the Matijašević family. It was first opened as a whiskey bar in 1989, then it was an apartment for a short period and in 2019 it was returned to its former glory. This cafe has a great choice of music, a cool interior and at the back of the place, there is an astonishing arch that will take you back to ancient times.

Ave_2.jpg0001.jpg

  • ST Riva

There are numerous cafes on the Split Riva, but this one is special. ST Riva has a small and very narrow terrace which is located just above Split Riva. From their terrace, which is the soul of this place, you can enjoy a view over the Riva and Split Harbour. Locals adore this place, but it is not always easy to find a spot so be prepared.

 ST-RIVA_2.jpg

  • Zalogajnica Dioklecijan

Zalogajnica Dioklecijan, otherwise known as Tri Volta, is one of the oldest taverns in the city center and even more in the Diocletian Palace. At Tri Volta, you can find local delicacies such as "pršut" and "bakalar" among many others. What is more, you can also come there for an evening drink such as beer or local wine as well as morning coffee. The place is filled with locals and it has a distinctive charm that is very rare to find in the center of Diocletian's Palace.

Tri_Volta_1_1.jpg

  • Vidilica

Vidilica is located corner of Marjan, just above the famous split neighborhood "Varoš". It has the best view of all of the cafes on this list. From there you can see the panorama of the whole city and the surrounding islands. It is at the very start of the Marjan hill so after grabbing a coffee you can also take a stroll and enjoy nature.

Vidilica_1.jpg

  • Žbirac

Žbirac is the most famous cafe on Bačvice beach. It is has a great view of the Bačvice beach and you can grab a drink there before going for a game of “picigin”. This place has also a great advantage in that it is in the sun most of the day which is a very important factor to every "Splićo".

Café-Road-Split-Žbirac.png

  • Academia Club Ghetto

Ghetto is located in the city center and even more importantly in Diocletian's Palace. It is a very authentic place, it has two floors and is quite modern but rarely seen interior design. What is more, it has a large garden and is often a host for many different artists and performers.  It is hard to describe the atmosphere that this cafe offers, but to keep it short they emphasize alternativeness, freedom of thought, and hospitality for everyone.

 Ghetto_2.jpgGhetto_1.jpg

  • Teak

Teak is a long-standing cafe in the city center. It is located near the Silver Gate entrance of Diocletian's Palace. It has an outside terrace as well an indoor place with a subterranean level which is quite a refreshment in the summer months. As they are situated right on the northern walls of Diocletian's Palace, their interior will astonish you with elements from the original Palace.

Teak_1_1_1.jpgTeak_2_1_1.jpg

  • Talog

Talog is the cafe located inside the Croatian National Theater building (HNK). It can be reached by entering HNK's back entrance. It is home for all the artists that work in the theater as well as outside guests that know about this hidden cafe. Talog.jpg

  • Street

Street cafe bar is one of those hood cafes which was established in 1994. It has a small garden in front of it which is a great place to drink coffee in Spring and Summer. On a building near the cafe, you can see graffiti with a girl on roller skates which is an advertisement for the same cafe.

Street_1_1_1.jpgStreet_2_1_1.jpg

  • Splash

Splash is a cafe located near the city park "Đardin" and at the corner of the Diocletian Palace. The main thing that characterizes this place is the love of metal music and you will figure that one the moment you step in. It is always filled with locals and the atmosphere is never dull.

Splash.jpg

Countries often have cheese roads, wine roads, and many different forms of tourism paths that connect some gastronomical offers. Given the number and diversity of cafes in Split, we could probably design a cafe road

The Split catering scene has completely changed with the touristic boom that occurred in the last decade or so. There are numerous new cafes and bars, but these are usually avoided by locals. The point of this article is to spread the word about authentic cafés that are still predominately visited by locals and which work the whole year-round.

Donations for Ukraine Being Collected in Split Today Between 4pm and 8pm

March 2, 2022 - A group of volunteers from the Association for Ukrainian Culture in Dalmatia - CVIT, with the help of a married couple conformed by a Ukrainian and a Chilean of Croatian descent, have set up a space to collect donations for Ukraine to support the refugees at the border. Here is what they need.

Yesterday, the people of Split once again showed their great heart, responding to the action of collecting humanitarian aid for Ukrainians organized by volunteers of the "Association for Ukrainian Culture in Dalmatia - CVIT", reports Slobodna Dalmacija. As we learn from Olga Kysliuk, a Ukrainian woman married to Rafael Barria, Chilean of Croatian descent who brought her spouse to Split, the space they rented for other purposes was made available to collect aid until further notice.

''We had a really good response today, even some Russians came to us with donations for Ukraine, so we decided to leave the door open as long as there is interest. A lot has been collected, and in contact with Ukrainians on the ground we learn that there is still a lack of medical supplies, compresses to stop bleeding and first aid kits, and thermal clothing and flashlights, along with hygiene supplies and instant food, so please adjust their donations to these needs'', Kysliuk states.

According to her, part of the already collected donations will be taken over by Ukrainian volunteers on the way to the border in the early morning hours, while the rest is being organized for transport.

''We do the best we can on our own. We are in contact with the embassy, but the organization is on us. People from all over are really coming and offering what they can, and the smiles they come to our door are worth a lot. Of course, they are not in good spirits, none of us are, so we appreciate that effort. I feel much better today than in the previous days, because I did something useful, not just sitting and crying with my arms crossed while my dear people spend the night in shelters'', says our interlocutor originally from the newly destroyed city of Chernihiv, stating that her family at the last minute found refuge in the countryside, but still in Ukraine.

Donations will be collected at the same address, Ulica kralja Zvonimira 7, today between 16:00 and 20:00, and apparently in the coming days as well. Anyone interested in more information can call 095/542 4292.
