An unexpected bonus for participants of the Adriatic Lagoon Regatta 6.0, organised by Nava Boats & Yachts Magazine, on April 29, 2017.
There are many reasons why Croatia is fast becoming Europe's top sailing destination - fabulous weather, gorgeous islands and breathtaking scenery to name but three - but there also unexpected events which add to the experience and make it even longer in the memory.
Take, for example, the Adriatic Lagoon Regatta, organised by Nava Boats & Yachts Magazine. Now in its sixth year with 11 boats, 84 crew and a healthy mix of local and international sailing enthusiasts, the three-day regatta is taking place for the sixth year, with an exciting route which takes in Split, Malinica on Solta, Palmizana on the Pakleni Islands off Hvar, ending in Trpanj on the Peljesac Peninsula.
And as the crews chartered the waters between Solta and Hvar, they found that they were racing not just against the other all lagoon catamarans, as they were accompanied by four majestic dolphins, gracefully navigating the seas below. Check them out in the video below.
Dolphins are a common sight in the Adriatic, just one more reason to take to the seas on your next Croatian holiday. Many thanks to Tash Pericic for the footage. Tash will be heading our Total Croatia Sailing website, which goes live in a few weeks. You can already follow it on Facebook here. For more about the regatta, click here.
