Motovun Film Festival is all grown up!
We're headed for the 20th anniversary of the beloved film festival that fills the streets of the stunning town of Motovun in central Istria with great movies and thousands of visitors each summer.
As stated in their manifest, the festival is dedicated to small and independent cinematographies to make underrated movies available to the public that otherwise wouldn't get the chance to see them. Apart from ensuring the programme can be described as 'top-quality films across the board', the organisers want to keep the festival small, relaxed and non-pretentious.
They've been doing a great job for the last 19 years, as their fans flock back to the charming Istrian town summer after summer to enjoy five days of film screenings in authentic historical ambiance. The screenings virtually don't stop, as they take place in two indoor and two outdoor theatres from 10 AM to... well, the following 10 AM. You get a couple of hours to sleep, have coffee and breakfast, watch fantastic films, repeat.
If you're thinking about going to celebrate the 20th birthday of this great manifestation, let us provide one more reason in favour of the festival: they've just announced the early bird ticket sets are on sale, a great offer for those who are interested in seeing as many titles as they can.
Here are a couple of options:
All for 15: a set of 10 tickets enabling you to see ten different films of your own choice. The set will cost you HRK 150, meaning you get to see each film for the low price of 15 kuna.
Big set: a set of 10 tickets exclusively for the 9 PM screenings at the main square in Motovun, called Cinema Trg. You get 10 tickets for HRK 300.
Little set: a set of 5 tickets for the 9 PM screenings at the main square for a total price of HRK 175.
Morning set: a set of 10 tickets for the 10 AM screenings in the indoor theatre Bauer. Price: HRK 180.
You can buy all the sets here. Only the 'All for 15' set needs to be bought before July 10, and the others can be purchased in advance or on Day Zero/Day One of the festival. You're advised to hurry up, though, as the number of places is limited. All sets also get you free accommodation at the camping site below the Film Hill throughout the festival.
While you wait for MFF to kick off, you might want to check out any (or all) of the Hidden Film Screenings currently taking place in Zagreb. If you subsribe to the MFF newsletter here, you'll become a member of the Society of Secret Screenings, with all information about future screening times and locations delivered to your inbox. Get your ticket set, see a film or two in advance, and stay patient – the Motovun Film Festival is only a month away!
