Hungry? Istria to Host 11th International Prosciutto Festival

By 26 September 2017

Istrians sure know how to party.

On the weekend of October 14, Tinjan town in Istria will host an event dedicated to one of our favourite things: pršut!

The International Prosciutto Fair is a well-known manifestation that draws hordes of visitors to the charming town of Tinjan each year. When we say hordes, we mean it: in two days, more than 25.000 people visit the fair. The number will only continue to grow thanks to excellent organisation and the quality of products on sale, so each year's event sees more participating pršut producers. As we're three weeks away from this piece of gourmet paradise, exhibitors are still applying for their spot at the fair. So far, it's been confirmed that the 11th edition of the mouth-watering manifestation will feature prosciutto-makers from multiple countries: Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Austria and Spain.

Fans of this phenomenal delicacy will have an opportunity to try more than 30 types of prosciutto, and we expect the visitors to sample all of them. What other way is there to know which one is the best-tasting? The heavy burden we're about to face will be made lighter by generous amounts of cheese and wine, two of the best things you could pair with prosciutto.

The opening ceremony of the two-day manifestation is set for Saturday, October 14. Considering that no event in Istria can take place without a party, the organisers prepared an attractive entertainment programme featuring performances of numerous local bands.  As the gorgeous region is well-known as a destination for active vacation, this year's fair will include a sports programme as well, featuring a hiking tour along a beautiful old dry-stone wall and a recreational cycling race named 'From Puddle to Puddle'. Visitors will also get a chance to see a gastro show at the fair for the first time, featuring two renowned chefs from Italy and Croatia.

The 11th International Prosciutto Fair is organised by the Municipality of Tinjan, the Association of Producers of Istrian Prosciutto, and the companies Cerot and Merikana. This year's partner is the Consorzio di Prosciutto di Parma from Italy.
