New Law on Foreigners in Croatia Coming This Year

ZAGREB, May 3, 2018 - Interior Ministry State Secretary Žarko Katić said in parliament on Thursday that the adoption of a new bill on foreigners could be expected in the last quarter of the year, adding that illegal immigrants pose a threat to the state's security. Katić admitted that the number of immigrants was growing, however, it "hasn't increased drastically compared to last year."

Council of Europe Warns Croatia about Deficiencies in Fighting Corruption

ZAGREB, May 3, 2018 - The Group of States against Corruption of the Council of Europe (GRECO) warned in a report on Thursday of a "reversal of progress in the fight against corruption," singling out Romania, Poland and Greece, while Croatia is among the eight countries with the highest number of non-implemented GRECO recommendations aimed at strengthening the capacity to combat corruption.

EU Expects Croatia's Economy to Grow 2.8% in 2018

ZAGREB, May 3, 2018 - The European Commission expects the Croatian economy to grow at a rate of 2.8%, sticking to the forecast it made three months ago, and the Commission assesses that the growth is based on rising personal consumption and investments, whereas the developments surrounding the ailing private Agrokor company still pose a risk to be a headwind to growth.
