25 Reasons to Visit Jelsa in 2016: 15. Pokrivenik

By 19 May 2016

We are staying on the northern side of the island, but moving a bit more to the east, presenting another very special place within the Jelsa municipality - Pokrivenik Bay.

Pokrivenik has 3 faces: Pokrivenik - the beach, Pokrivenik the apartment houses and Pokrivenik - Hotel Timun. The first two are accessible from Zastražišće (look for the road sigh) and to get to the Hotel Timun side, you will have to take the road from Gdinj (a big crossing, you won´t miss it). Each place has something to offer and is beautiful in its own way.

If you are looking for a peaceful vacation, away from the crowds, renting a place in one of the apartment houses in Pokrivenik is a good choice. Friendly hosts, a beautiful beach directly in front of your window and the closest buzzing tourism centre 25 km away in Jelsa, or 35 in Sućuraj. Just relax, lay back and read a book. Oh, I know I would do just that in Pokrivenik..

On the opposite side of the Pokrivenik Bay, a small harbour is located. The road from Gdinj ends here, in front of the Hotel Timun. It is a small family-run business with a beautiful terrace and a great view. There are not many hotels with such a stunning location in Dalmatia.

There are several other lodging options on this side and if you are really into having your holiday in a Robinson Crusoe style, you could explore the option to rent a small house in the small bay next to the harbour - the only way to get there is by boat from the harbour and if the wind gets stronger, even this option falls out.

And then we have the Pokrivenik beach and it is absolutely amazing. With just a few houses and a small cave to explore, it is a perfect place for a day-trip filled with swimming and sunbathing. Just look at these pictures, or even better, visit it this year!!
