Croatia’s Proposal to Create EU Budget Line for Tourism Supported

ZAGREB, December 16, 2018 - The European Parliament has proposed a separate, 300 million euro EU budget line for tourism, and the inclusion of tourism in the Council of the EU programme is a confirmation that Croatian lobbying and emphasising the importance of tourism for the economy, both of Croatia and the EU as a whole, was justified, the Tourism Ministry said in a press release on Sunday. The initiative to better position the tourism industry in the EU institutions was initiated early this year by Croatian Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli. "I am pleased that our initiative has been recognised…

Hvar Star Residence: Project Update from Zoran Pejovic

December 14, 2018 -  TCN caught up with Zoran Pejovic, the person in charge of the Hvar Star Residence hotel project in Maslinica Bay, Stari Grad. A major project on the island of Hvar has received a building permit! While this would not ordinarily be news in most countries, things are a little different in Croatia. Especially, for some reason, on Hvar, which is an island with bureaucracy to match its beauty. Where is Croatia: 2nd Most Searched Destination in 2018

December 14, 2018 - Where is Croatia? Nobody seems to know, according to the latest data and trends from Google's Year in Search 2018. 2018 has been an extraordinary year for so many reasons, and few Croats will forget it due to the heroics on Russian football fields this summer.  And while Croatia finished runners-up in a highly entertaining final against France in July, it seems that this is no the only thing Croatia came in second this year. An interesting finding from Tavel + Leisure in the recently released data available from Google's Year in Seach 2018 showed that 'Where…

Advent in Zagreb, or Madvent? Scratching Below the Surface

December 11, 2018 - Advent in Zagreb, voted the best Christmas market three years in a row. But what is behind the scenes? While most were full of euphoria at the sudden ascent of Croatia's capital city conquering Christkindlmarkt in Germany and other established Advent destinations in Europe, only one news portal went a little deeper and looked at the story 'behind the story'. That was back in 2016, and while the story behind the story has not gone away, media coverage of it has. As is so often the case in Croatia.  Until now, perhaps.  An intriguing YouTube video…
