Pag: 10th International Lace Festival from 20th to 23rd of June

It's difficult to claim one Croatian island to be more interesting than another, and it's even more difficult to make such claims about a country with more than 1,000 islands to its name. However, Pag is certainly an extremely unusual island. If you've ever spent any time there, when compared to other Croatian islands which are typically thick with green Mediterranean vegetation and rich with life, you'll know that this almost entirely naked, Mars like structure in the Adriatic sea is in a league of its own. A paradise for photographers as well as tourists, Pag has a long and…

Croatian Tourism: Overnight Stays Increase, Tourists Complain of Higher Prices

Croatia, a country that heavily relies on tourism, can let out a sigh of relief. Although figures were not so encouraging until May, June has put Croatian tourism back on trend. Namely, the statistics that reveal the number of overnights and arrivals for foreign guests are good - and growing, reports Vijesti.hr on June 16, 2019.  Specifically, Istria leads the pack, as it usually does every year. And so many travelers made their way to the sea by highways, traffic at the Lučko toll station has already seen a 4 percent increase compared to last year. Holidays, summer heat, and…

Bajer Lake in Fužine Emptied, Shows Amazing Sites at Bottom

If you've ever traveled from Zagreb to Rijeka on the A6 highway, you'll probably have noticed that there are several lakes visible en route. It's unlikely that any of the lakes are as impressive as Bajer lake, located in the centre of Fužine, a town in Gorski Kotar. It's an artificial, accumulation lake, created in the early 1950's as a part of the hydro-energy system Vinodol, using the water from the area of Gorski Kotar to create electricity. Bajer lake is just one part of the system, along with the Lokvarsko, Lepenica and Potkoš lakes which provide the water for…

Meet the Shop on an Uninhabited Croatian Island Doing Great Business on Zut

June 16, 2019 - Business is booming in parts of Croatia where you might least expect it. Imagine opening a shop on an island with no permanent inhabitants, for example - as Sime and Veronika have done on the Kornati island of Zut, for example.  The more I travel around Croatia, the more amazed I get by the individual stories of innovation, determination and success. In the most unlikely of places.  Consider, for example, the island of Zut on the Kornati Islands, where I enjoyed my first ever glamping experience on Friday night at Festa Days.  This was my third…

Hello Budget Flights Zagreb! Eurowings, Lauda in Low-Cost Old Terminal Base?

June 16, 2019 - Is Croatian tourism and business set for a major boost with the old airport terminal in Zagreb about to start a new chapter as a budget airline base? It is 16 years since I moved to Croatia on a permanent basis, and it is fair to say that there has been considerable change in airline connectivity in that time. Those who today complain about the lack of winter flights from cheap carriers from November to March should look back just a few years to before the arrival of Ryanair in Zadar in 2007. My off-season choices…
