May 19, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as 16 Wizz Air flights to Split and Dubrovnik will run this summer, offering more than 370,000 seats to and from Croatia during the tourist season.

Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air plans to operate to two Croatian airports, Split and Dubrovnik, on a total of 16 international routes this summer, which is more than last year's summer flight schedule, reports Croatian Aviation

Wizz Air is still negotiating with certain airports in Croatia, so there is a chance that more new routes will be announced in the peak season, although the chances are getting smaller as we approach the summer.

Currently, 16 international lines to Split and Dubrovnik are available for booking.

Lines from Split to:

Vienna, from 1 June, three times a week, until the end of September,

Rome, from June 6, four times a week, until the end of September,

Vilnius, from June 13, twice a week, until the end of September,

London (Luton), from June 13, daily, until early October

Lines from Dubrovnik to:

Vienna, from June 4, three times a week, until the end of September,

Rome, from June 13, three times a week, until the end of September,

Warsaw, from June 13, twice a week, until the end of September,

Wroclaw, from August 4, twice a week, until the end of September,

London (Luton), from July 4, four times a week, until the end of October.

Currently, 1,778 operations have been announced on these lines for this summer, with most, of course, to Split Airport. A320 and A321 aircraft with a capacity of 180 to 230 seats have been announced on all routes.

Thus, 282,150 seats are available to and from Split on Wizz Air, while 89,452 seats are available to and from Dubrovnik Airport.

The Hungarian airline is offering more than 370 thousand seats to and from Croatia in the upcoming summer season, and most of the routes will start operating in the first half of June, or in a little less than a month.

Official Split Airport Taxi Prices Published to Trogir, Split City Center, and More

May 17, 2022 - Official Split Airport taxi prices have been published at the airport's taxi stand in an effort to combat outrageous fares.

After the concessions were introduced for taxi carriers, Split Airport published a list of prices for taxi services from Resnik. Namely, a price list is set up next to the signpost for the taxi stand and informs guests about the cost of transport to several destinations, reports Dalmatinski Portal

A ride to Trogir is 150 kuna, to the surrounding marinas 220 kuna, to Omiš 600, and to Šibenik 680 kuna. For Split, prices range between 330 to 380 kuna. Van rides are 30 percent more expensive. The prices seem fair and will certainly help keep guests from feeling cheated.

Dalmatinski Portal

Dalmatinski Portal recently published an invoice for a taxi ride from the ferry port in Split to the Airport, costing the passenger 957 kuna to drive 26 kilometers! This is almost three times the tariff announced at Resnik.

A ride on that route should cost a maximum of 300 kuna, says Milivoj Topić, president of the Transportation Guild at the Association of Craftsmen.

"We warned when passing the law that things like this would happen. And that is just one of the negative things we are facing," says Topić.

Topić believes this move by Split Airport is a step in the right direction.

"The price list was brought by the airport in cooperation with the Association of Craftsmen of the City of Kaštela. We are also looking to do something similar in Split in the foreseeable future, following the example of Dubrovnik, Novalja, and Pula, in order to avoid embarrassing situations and manipulations," says Topić.

But there are other ways to get from Split Airport to the city center, mainly mobile applications like Uber, Bolt, and Cammeo. At the time of writing this, Bolt will take you from the Split Riva to Split Airport for 190 kuna, while Uber is around 215 kuna. Cammeo was showing 220 kuna. The applications showed around 60 kuna to Trogir from Split Airport.

And if you're looking for even cheaper options from Split Airport to the Split City Center? You can take the airport shuttle bus directly to the Split Bus Station for 45 kuna (more information here) or hop on the local 37 Promet bus.

Official Split Airport Passenger Figures Extremely Encouraging

May the 6th, 2022 - The official Split Airport passenger figures so far are encouraging to say the very least, with hopes high for the strong summer tourist season and some decent income following two tricky and unstable years dominated by financial insecurity and a global pandemic.

When it comes to Croatian tourism, we all thought 2022 was going to be the year in which the global coronavirus pandemic and all of the severe damage restrictions across the world caused would be left in the past. It seems as though that is going to be the case. With all entry restrictions in regard to COVID-19 when crossing the Croatian border now scrapped, and with that being the case in most of the European countries from which the most tourists tend to arrive, many are rubbing their hands.

The ongoing war in Ukraine following Russian invasion is still raging, and although this definitely poses a risk to travellers, those now wondering whether or not to visit Croatia are not typically Europeans. American travellers, who think Croatia looks a little bit too close to Ukraine on a large map of Europe have been cancelling, but it isn't occurring en masse and most of those working in the Croatian tourism sector aren't concerned. Official Split Airport figures offer a glimpse of the trends we can expect throughout 2022.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the numerous satisfied statements of tourism industry workers from across the country about a decent and very promising pre-season could be read on numerous portals and in many newspapers over more recent days, and the official figures on the number of guests who arrived in the City of Split by plane are now in, as reported by Croatian Aviaton.

When it comes to Split Airport passengers so far, the Dalmatian airport saw 133,136 passengers during the month of April, with Croatia Airlines and EasyJet carrying the largest share of passengers. That’s 85 percent of the traffic recorded back in the same month of pre-pandemic, record 2019, when 156,381 passengers were recorded passing through Split Airport, up from a mere 14,783 last year.

If everything continues going in this direction and this trend remains as it is, there will also be good passenger traffic in May and June for Split Airport, which provides a lot of hope for those needing to fill their half-empty pockets back up after an unprecedented and extremely difficult two years.

Croatia Airlines Split Base Continues to Expand with Winter Operations, New 2023 Summer Flights

May 5, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as the Croatia Airlines Split base will continue to expand in the 2022/2023 winter season, with new routes next summer, too.

Good news for the Dalmatian capital - Croatian national carrier Croatia Airlines is looking to expand operations out of Split Airport! Ex Yu Aviation reports that this news comes after the airline said it would station two aircraft in Split this summer with five new routes.

Recall, the Croatian national airline Croatia Airlines announced it would introduce new flights to Stockholm, Bucharest, Dublin, Milan, and Amsterdam. Stockholm, Bucharest, Dublin, and Milan were served from Zagreb before the pandemic, while the airline operated to some of these destinations in the past - Amsterdam in October 2013, Dublin in October 1996, and Milan in September 2000.

An Airbus A319 and a Dash 8 turboprop aircraft will be stationed in Split this summer, allowing Croatia Airlines to boost operations on several routes. The airline should also expand operations out of Split in the 2022/2023 winter season, with new routes next summer.

“Based on the outlook that leisure travel and tourism will recover quicker than business travel following the coronavirus pandemic, we made certain changes to our network. This includes five new destinations from Split and the stationing of one Airbus jet and one Dash there. We have good expectations for the leisure market. We also have plans for winter, while next year we will do something similar. We are optimistic about the summer, which is illustrated through our forward bookings," said Croatia Airlines' Head of Network and Revenue Management, Krešimir Mlinar, at the Aviation Arena webinar.

“Our biggest problem this year is the price of fuel. The A320 uses two and a half tonnes of fuel per hour. This is a constant, even if a ton of fuel is around 400 euros like last year, 700 euros as was the case at the start of 2022, or 1.200 euros, which is the current price. The numbers are huge, and carriers will have to make up for it through their customers. Our main problem now is that, despite a rise in late bookings, tickets are still being purchased in advance, when the increased costs were not included in the fares for use this summer. From June onwards, we expect high levels of fleet utilisation. Some aircraft types will be in use more than in 2019. That year we also had two jets on wet-lease so as to reduce seasonality. However, it was too risky to employ the same strategy this year," concluded Mlinar.

Croatia Airlines Split Flights Boosted in 2022 Summer Flight Schedule

April 26, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Croatia Airlines Split flights have been boosted in the 2022 summer flight schedule.

The Croatian national airline has made additional changes to this year's summer flight schedule and has increased the number of flights from Split Airport, reports Croatian Aviation

Croatia Airlines announced the increase in the number of weekly rotations from Split Airport after introducing 5 new seasonal routes from Split to Stockholm, Dublin, Bucharest, Amsterdam, and Milan.

Namely, the Croatian national airline has connected Split with Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, and Vienna in the summer flight schedule for many years, while direct flights to Munich and Frankfurt are available throughout the year. As announced by EX-YU Aviation, the airline will have more flights on the following routes in the upcoming summer season than in previous years.

Split - Copenhagen - Split will operate three times a week, from June to the end of September. One flight per week was previously available on this line,

Split - Dusseldorf - Split will operate twice a week, from June to the end of September. One flight a week was also previously available.

Split - Vienna - Split will be in traffic daily, from June to the end of September. Two to four 4 flights a week were previously available.

Split - Frankfurt - Split will operate 9 times a week. Last summer it was operated 7 times a week (daily).

Split - Munich - Split will operate 12 times a week. Last summer it was operated 8 times a week.

This is a significant increase in the number of rotations from Split Airport, which only confirms the Croatian national airline's focus is on this airport, according to which demand will be highest in the peak summer season.

Croatia Airlines has competition on all the mentioned routes. SAS and Norwegian will fly to Copenhagen, Eurowings, and Condor to Dusseldorf, Austrian Airlines and Wizz Air to Vienna, and German Lufthansa to Frankfurt and Munich.

New Wizzair and Vueling Summer Split Flights Announced

April 8, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as new Wizzair and Vueling summer Split flights have been announced from Vilnius and Paris (Orly Airport).

Two well-known low-cost airlines, Hungarian Wizzair and Spanish Vueling have announced new routes to Split Airport, reports Croatian Aviation.

Namely, Wizz Air and Vueling are introducing new routes to Split Airport in this year's summer flight schedule. Both airlines have been operating on several international routes to Split for years in the summer months.

Vueling will introduce a regular line between Split and Paris (Orly Airport) on June 17 this year, announcing two flights a week, every Tuesday and Sunday. The line should operate almost until the end of October, with only one flight per week available on Sundays.

A320 aircraft have been announced on the route, so more than 12,500 seats will be available on this new Vueling route from June to October.

Hungarian Wizz Air has announced the first new line to Croatia this summer season. This is a regular seasonal line between Vilnius - Split - Vilnius, which will also start operating in June.

The first flight has been announced for June 13, and two flights a week have been announced, every Monday and Friday, until the end of September or September 23. The A320 and A321 aircraft will operate on the route, which in the fleet of this airline have a capacity of 180 and 230 seats in the passenger cabin, respectively.

This is Wizz Air's first announcement of a new seasonal line to Croatia for this year, and there should be more soon. Namely, several Croatian airports are in final negotiations with this low-cost airline to launch seasonal routes to Croatia this summer. The advantage for Croatian airports lies in the fact that this airline unexpectedly received additional spare capacity. Namely, with the war in Ukraine, Wizz Air canceled flights to that country just like all other airlines. Just from the capital Kyiv, they planned to operate more than 100 international routes from two airports (Boryspil and Zhulyany) this summer.

The airline is now working urgently to employ excess capacity for this summer, which is an advantage of Croatian airports, especially Osijek Airport, where this carrier has already operated.

Austrian Airlines Croatia Flights to Operate 23 Times Per Week

March 15, 2022 - The latest flight news to Croatia as Austrian Airlines Croatia flights will operate 23 times per week from the beginning of the summer flight schedule.

Austrian national airline and Lufthansa Group member Austrian Airlines will renew seasonal routes from Vienna to Split and Dubrovnik from the end of March, and to Zadar in early April. There will also be an increase in the number of weekly operations at Zagreb International Airport, reports Croatian Aviation.

Namely, Austrian Airlines is reintroducing seasonal routes from its main hub in Vienna to Split and Dubrovnik at the beginning of the summer flight schedule, which begins on March 27 this year. In the first days of April, traffic will resume between Vienna and Zadar Airport.

The first flight between Vienna and Split has been announced for Sunday, March 27. At the beginning of the summer flight schedule, Austrian will operate between the two cities 6 times a week, every day except Tuesdays. Already in the second half of April, there will be an increase in the number of flights on a daily basis.

In the first seven rotations to Split, Embraer 195 aircraft will operate, as well as the largest aircraft from the A320 family, the A321. Currently, there are 2,000 seats in that period.

There will be a similar flight schedule at the beginning of the season to Dubrovnik Airport. Five flights a week have been announced, starting on March 27, every day except Tuesdays and Thursdays, but there will also be an increase in the number of rotations by the Easter holiday.

1,872 seats are available on the first 7 flights between Dubrovnik and Vienna, and A320 and E195 aircraft will operate on the route.

Austrian will introduce a line to Zadar a little later than Split and Dubrovnik. The first flight has been announced for Saturday, April 9, and three flights a week have been announced at the start of the season, every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

Prior to the pandemic, the Austrian airline operated twice a day to Zagreb, but this route has not yet returned to its 2019 capacity. Apparently, this will not happen at the beginning of this summer season either, although there will be an increase in weekly rotations.

Namely, from Sunday, March 27, Austrian will operate between Vienna and Zagreb eight times a week, every day except Wednesday, with two flights a day announced on Fridays and Sundays.

From Sunday, March 27, to Sunday, March 3, Austrian will offer 2,160 seats to and from Zagreb. Namely, as the airline retired all DashQ400 aircraft in June last year, Embraer 195 aircraft with a capacity of 120 seats will fly to Zagreb, so the previously mentioned smaller number of flights was compensated by increasing capacity or changing the type of aircraft on the route.

In the peak summer season, easyJet will operate on 42 scheduled international routes from five Croatian airports, but a detailed analysis of the schedule for May, June and July will be known in the weeks ahead, given that operational changes are certainly possible.

Airlines from the A320 family, type A319, A320 and A321NEO, which have a capacity of 156 to 235 seats at easyJet, have been announced on the routes.
