Famous Faros Swimming Marathon in Stari Grad on August 27

By 10 June 2016

This year’s Faros Marathon will be the 41st edition of the international long distance swimming championship, taking place in Stari Grad on August 27.

Faros is a premiere sports and tourist event of international importance, and the largest continuous international event in the whole of Croatia.  As such, this event is universal promotion and affirmation that is best confirmed by the high patronage of the Croatian president from 1992 to today. Faros is a superb promotional export product for our country, enriching the tourist offer of the island of Hvar, Dalmatia and Croatia.

Stari Grad will host the 16 km long swimming competition from the new waterfront to cape Kabal and back.

The Faros marathon has been taking place over the last 40 years, with this year marking the 41st anniversary. It has gained a world sports cult status, even without being a member of FINA Grand Prix and with no large prize pool.

In Faros tradition, August 27 wil hold the competition day, as Faros is always held the last weekend in August.
