Naked Scot Spotted Swimming Off Hvar in Late November

By 28 November 2016

The Scots are a curious race.

For more than 300 years they bang on about the need to have a referendum on independence, and once you give them a chance to vote for freedom, they decide they want to stay after all.

When it comes to sport, they are the ultimate Bravehearts, playing like tigers for 89 minutes, until they usually have defeat snatched from the jaws of victory in the last minute.

We can leave the culinary delight of the deep-fried Mars Bar for another time, as well as their ingenious ideas to boost tourism, such as the Loch Ness Monster, but it was the Loch Ness monster that came into my head as I received this photo from a concerned reader yesterday. Does Hvar have its very own Nessie near Soline beach in Vrboska?

Most people swim on Hvar in the summer when the water is warm. Not the Scots. Not only was yesterday's performance not a one-off, but the Scots are planning to swim every day this week, as well as the traditional Christmas Day dip.

Hvar, a 12-month swimming destination. If you are Scottish.
