While many other places have been immersed in Christmas preparations for weeks, things are only just starting in Jelsa, one of the things I love most about this town in winter, and it was a genuine shock for my daughters on their trip to the UK last month to see how commercial everthing was - and it wasn't even December.
Tonight (see below), there is a performance from the team from Karneval Jelsa, starting at 17:00 at the town hall building next to the square, followed by lots of fun on the square, including sausages, mulled wine and a tombola, which all starts at 17:00, but the real addition this Christmas is a nightly gastro gathering on the waterfront, organised by Me and mrs Jones, U Smokve and Step Up.
Every night from December 23-31, the three restaurants will be fronting gourmet programme with plenty of mulled wine, music and other Christmas treats. Open from 17:00 each night, apart from Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve when the fun starts at 10:00, this will be the focal point of all the fun in Jelsa this Christmas. A really nice initiative, and how encouraging to see that two of the three participating restaurants are ones which only opened this year, and which will be open throughout winter - U Smokve and Step Up (which is above Artichoke, where Candela used to be).
