As we enter a much quieter post-season in Dalmatia, we reflect on an equally calm preseason on Hvar.
While I’ve been coming to the island of Hvar since I was a little girl, it was usually always during the busy summer months - and it does not take long before your tolerance for swarms of sweaty bodies in a rush around the island dwindles.
Before I moved to Split two years ago, I wasn’t able to visit the island much in the pre or postseason, and I think the closest I’ve ever visited away from the busy summer season was in the middle of September. You can imagine, then, how a warm May day quickly became my favorite visit to Hvar.
Maybe it was because I was in the company of two of my dearest friends, or perhaps it was because nothing else at all seemed to matter that day, but the cobblestoned alleyways of Stari Grad and the quiet squares of Hvar Town radiated tranquillity. I was lucky enough that one of my friends, a respected photographer in the United States, captured our day of preseason perfection.
