Kino Mediterranean Hvar and Town Library and Reading Room come together for an autumn and winter season of cinema.
After a successful summer season of screenings at Veneranda, Kino Mediteran Hvar begins the autumn and winter season with a new cinema program crafted in cooperation with the Town Library and Reading Room of Hvar. The event will mark one month of Croatian books.
Thus, on October 17, 2017, at the Hvar Library, two French films will be screened according to models of literature.
At 17:00, guests can enjoy the French animated film “The King and the Mockingbird“ from 1980, based on the book by Hans Christiana Andersen. The film is the most famous and most watched French cartoon of all time and has equally won over both children and adults.
At 19:00, film lovers can look forward to French cult classic "Le Mempris", by the famous director of Jean-Luc Godard. The film, of course, stars the unforgettable Brigitte Bardot. In this psychological drama, the director manages to conjure the many layers of interpersonal relationships, regardless of their love or professional ties. The film was based on the book of Alberta Moravia, master of psychological novels.
Entrance to both films is free and will be shown as part of the Rendez-vous au cinema program, a festival that brings French films to independent cinemas throughout Croatia for one month. The program is organized by the Croatian Audiovisual Center, in cooperation with the French Institute in Croatia and the Cinema Network. The program will be held in 25 cinemas throughout Croatia, and we are especially pleased that Kino Mediteran Hvar will be a part of this event for the first time.
A bit about Kino Mediteran Hvar
While the first cinema programs in Hvar existed in 1930, regular cinema programs in Hvar began in the 1960s under the title “Kino Madeira" in the Arsenal area. The cinema continuously worked throughout the year, and summer projections were held outdoors at Veneranda. The cinema closed its doors in 1993, and summer projections were held until 2003. After that summer season, Hvar no longer had a regular movie program.
The situation changed in the summer of 2012 when Kino Mediteran Hvar was born as a three-day pilot project, opening with great success and an excellent audience response. During the summer season 2013, cinema programs became more and more frequent, and since March 2014, they have been regularly held outside of the tourist season.
Thanks to the good results and an eager audience, Kino Mediteran Hvar received the support of the Ministry of Culture and was even gifted with modern technical equipment.
Kino Mediteran Hvar is organized in partnership with the town of Hvar.
