I would be lying if I said it was totally finished, but it is fair to say that Jelsa's new town beach is open for business.
Noticing a silence from the diggers and a whitening of the surface from our view on the terrace, I decided to do battle with the midday heat in search of more information for you, our faithful readers, and here is what I found.
After a little stop-start work this winter and spring, there has been a flurry of action in recent days, resulting in a much expanded beach, covered in fine pebbles, right at the end of the waterfront, which now offers families and young bathers a close and safe bathing option, replacing the previously tiny beach that was there previously. And with a bar directly behind the beach, supervisionary parenting over a cold one is definitely an option.
There are deck chairs for hire - 20 kuna each.
It DOES look rather inviting though, and located less than 30 seconds from the main square, you will not get a closer chance to have a dip in Jelsa than this.
And while it is possible for a more skilled photographer than I to take idyllic photos, it should be pointed out that things are not quite finished, and the view back towards town is altogether more interesting. The digger you see has been in this state for a while now, and I am beginning to think that it is perhaps going to become a monument to recognise all the recent construction, for which Jelsa is hopefully in the final stages of. It should be silent for the rest of the summer, and therefore adds an excellent free feature to the beach for the little ones - a chance to dream of being the driver of a digger on a beach. Don't fall in...
Am sure the final touches will be attached after the season, but for now it more than does the job. Come on in, the water's lovely!
