The announced exhibition in Brussels - the start of the official celebration of the 2400th birthday of Stari Grad on Hvar island took place today. According to the Pleković′s website, the aim of the event was to strongly affirm the potential for further cultural, economic and tourism cooperation of Paros and Faros - separated by 700 nautical miles - as well as the relations of Croatia and Greece as two friendly Mediterranean members of the EU. Additionally, useful should have been the exchange of views regarding common experiences and plans for using the European programs of development of the islands as well as increasing the quality of life of the population on the islands.

"Today, I hosted a great jubilee - 2400 years of Stari Grad on the island of Hvar, which celebrated the common historical roots of the island Faros and Paros. A round-table and a photo exhibition "Islands Faros & paros - Millenial Mediterranean Connections" were a part of the celebration. By presenting this fascinating anniversary in the centre of the European Union, we also made a contribution to the promotion of the Croatian culture and tradition. The event was attended by 250 guests, including 60 representatives from the island of Hvar and the Split-Dalmatia county, the county prefect Zlatko Ževrnja, co-organiser Stari Grad Mayor Vinko Maroević, as well as representatives from Paros in Greec. At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the Commissioner at the European Commission Christos Stylianides - Χρήστος Στυλιανίδης and the vice President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani were present," said Plenković on his Facebook page after the event.
