With 39 days to go until final voting for Best European Destination 2017 on the European Best Destinations website, we countinue our look at Croatian nominee Stari Grad through the lens of local photograher, Vedran Rafael Janic.
Defining the attractions of some destinations is relatively easy - beaches, nightlife, that kind of thing - but Stari Grad is a little different.
It has both beaches and nightlife of course, but one of its greatest attractions is its timelessness, and walking the cool streets of its superbly preserved old town, whose cobbled stones have been walked for thousands of years, by Greeks, Romans and many who followed.
Whatever time of year you visit, the pedestrian streets of Stari Grad's old town hold a magic of their own. Not too big to get lost in, but big enough to get a little lost, for a moment perhaps, there is a surprise and a treasure around every corner.
And while other towns can get busy and noisy in the peak of the season, as well as unbearably hot, Stari Grad's ancient streets remain remarkably cool - and quiet. The perfect place to disappear to (almost) lose yourelf in thousands of years of picturesque history.
