Order on the Beach: Mayor Novak Enforces Wooden Chairs and White Sunscreens

By 6 January 2018

Making sure your beach time in Hvar town is free of adverts and plastic

As one of his first decisions in the new 2018, Hvar Mayor Rikardo Novak has issued a proclamation of what sunscreens and deck chairs must look like on Hvar town beaches. According to the proclamation published on the town webpages, in the 2018 season any and all companies in economic activity in the maritime domain with a concession or concession approval need to replace plastic deck chairs with wooden ones, while all sunscreens need to be of natural materials (reeds or similar), with fabrics of white or off-white colour.

Sunscreens must not have advertisements, except company logos which can be brandished on the lower part of the sunscreen. Checking to see if everyone obeys the Mayor’s decision will be municipal bobbies and competent authorities for the supervision of maritime domain.
