Another one of the amazing beaches on Korčula, this one facing Pelješac, where many changes have been happening.
ARTICLE UPDATED WITH NEW INFORMATION ON JULY 12, 2018:
After we've published the article below, we've been informed that many changes have happened at the Vaja beach this year, and that we should update the information, as the changes have in fact, made quite a lot of difference to the beach.
In this spring, Vaja beach has gotten a whole new access road, making it much easier to get to the beach, as it is wider, less steep and overall safer and more pleasant. In addition to that, a new beach bar has been opened at the beach, offering a wide selection of drinks a beach-goer might enjoy, and let's be honest, there probably aren't that many places where it would be nicer to have a pint with a view. Additionally, a new taxi boat transfer service has also been added, taking you to Vaja during the summer. To find out more about the transfers, visit their Facebook page.

This beach is mentioned in our Top Ten Beaches on Korčula guide, because it's, let's face it, amazing.
It's located just to the west of Račišće (and right between the village and the already mentioned Samograd bay and beach), but unlike Samograd, it's not really easy to get to Vaja beach. Look at the photo above. That's where you'll be standing if you decide to go there, before you start the descent down the narrow cliff-side path that will take you to the beach. It's not impossible to do, and it's not like there are hundreds of gravely hurt people getting down there every year, but all we're saying is - don't go down to Vaja in your beach footwear! And, please, don't forget anything in your car before coming down, as you'll hate yourself quite a lot if you do.
As far as parking is concerned, there shouldn't be any problems parking your car near the beach, as the road basically ends there, and it's narrow and you'll find a spot either really close to where the path down starts, or a bit up the road, and the chances are good that your car will be in the shade as well.
Make sure you bring quite a lot of water as you start your way down, as there is (quite non-surprisingly) no bar, restaurant or any other infrastructure at the beach. Also, you won't be able to rent any parasols or beach chairs, it's not that type of the beach. This is the beach where it's just you, sea, sun, some people (not too many, even during the high season), some sailboats (because it's easier for them to get to the beach) and probably some maestral in the afternoon. There is some shade on the beach, provided by the trees in the background, but you can't really count on being the lucky one who will be able to catch the place in the shade, so have sun-screen ready.
The pebbles of the beach are perfect, the sea-water is woderfully clean and remarkable for snorkeling, and you'll get to enjoy the authentic, peaceful and relaxing day, which will probably feel like you've stepped into a different era once you get down to Vaje. Once you start you way back to your car, it's not going to be easy...
