Beaches on Korcula

Korčula Beach of the Week - Babina

By 27 September 2018

Once you get passed Samograd and Vaje bays on the northern side of the island, going west, away from Korčula towards Vela Luka, it will take a while before you stumble upon a nice beach.

And that beach is called Babina, located at the bottom of a deep bay. The bay is, of course, facing north-west, it's facing Hvar and it's close to Čara, about 2-3 kilometers away from the main Korčula - Vela Luka road, down a quite steep road.

The bottom of the bay is a lovely pebble beach, admittedly not one of the largest ones you've ever seen. It does have one major thing going for it, and that's the quite thick row of quite high tamarisk bushes and several olive trees, very near the seashore - much closer than you'd usually find at a Dalmatian beach. Imagine the opportunity to get in the sea on a lovely pebbly beach, and still be in the shade of pine trees!

There are about a dozen houses in the bay, close to the beach itself, with several of them renting accomodation. But in terms of people, that's basically it, as Babina is not one of the most popular beaches on Korčula, it's not that close to Korčula town and not that many people decide to visit Babina, although that's a shame. There are no bars or restaurants in the bay, so please bring refreshments with you - although there are houses, so if you forget your water, we're sure you'll be able to find someone who'll help you with dehydration. There's no other infrastructure on the beach either, and you will not be able to rent a parasol (which you probably won't be needing on this beach anyway) or a beach chair.
