Five Loves for Hvar Bring Mozart and Brahms to Hvar Summer Festival Tonight

By 19 July 2017

Hvar's cultural summer continues, and one of the most amazing venues on the island is the cloister of the 550 year-old Franciscan Monastery further along from the Hvar Town riva. If you are looking to find a rich international programme of accomplished artists and concerts, look no further than the 56th Hvar Summer Festival, whose Facebook page you can follow here.

Take tonight for example, a mouthwatering string and clarinet quarter bringing Mozart and Brahms to life in this atmospheric setting, and all five musicians have at least one thing in common - a relationship and deep love for the island of Hvar.

We received an invitation to tonight's concert, as well as a little more information on that love, from clarinet maestro Alex Ladstätter:

"Me and my sister Natalia Sagmeister (born Ladstätter) have been coming to Hvar since we were children to our grandmother's house in the old town (Groda). We both speak the Croatian language, and we have many friends in our age here in Hvar. Since 2004 we have been enjoying our holidays in our own house in the bay of Podstine. Our uncle Stiv Pagon is a painter and lives at the Poconij Dol light house near Hvar.

Kajana Packo (Violoncello) is born in Split and lives with her husband Tristan (Violin) in Leipzig. Her aunt has a house in Zavala in the middle of the island Hvar and it was the place Pitve were they got married in 2013. They spend every summer holiday in Hvar.

Hiwote playing Viola is member of the Zagreb Philharmonic orchestra and is also a regular guest to the island of Hvar."

It promises to be a wonderful evening. See you there!
