The island of Proizd, close to Vela Luka bay, was declared the best beach of 2007 by the Croatian National Board, while The Daily Telegraph listed it as among the top five beaches on the Adriatic.
Proizd is well known for its stunning turquoise colour of the sea which is at the same time one of the cleanest waters in the region. The island gets up to 305 sunny days in the year. Proizd is located in front of Vela Luka bay and has both rocky and pebble beaches. There are four bathing areas, each just five minutes’ walk away from each other. The best-known beach is called Bili Boci and it is located on northern side of the island and faces the southern side of Hvar and the open sea. This beach has white rocks that go to the turquoise colour sea creating a stunning image and perfect swimming and sunbathing spot. You can reach the beach by walking the paths along the island from the dock to the beach. During summer, a boat connects Proizd with Vela Luka - the regular boat line takes approximately 30 minutes while you can reach it with a speedboat in just few minutes. There is a restaurant in the small port area.
Another gem in close vicinity of Vela Luka is the island of Ošjak - you can reach it in just 10 minutes by boat. Better known as Love Island, it is popular with visitors because of its peaceful surroundings. It is really easy to forget daily stress of life you’re here. The island has a lovely walking path leading through pinewood, so simply find your spot to sunbathe, swim and snorkel.
No matter if you’re looking for a day off on the beach or change of scenery while in Vela Luka - a day trip to Proizd or Ošjak (or both) is a must.
