When you live on one of the most amazing island on the Adriatic, where do you to for an excursion?
Organized by the Red Cross Korčula Association, blood donors from Korčula and Orebić enjoyed a well deserved trip to the island of Vis last weekend, Dubrovački vjesnik writes.
More than 60 people joined the trip, they took a guided tour of Vis, saw an amateur theatre play by Vis' Ranko Marinković Theatre, local boats took them to see the south side of the island, they visited Modra and Zelena Špilja on Biševo island, walked around Komiža and visited Hum, the highest peak of Vis and a famous WWII airport.
The organizers thanked Jadrolinija and Krilo Jet for donating the catamaran tickets to Vis and back, and Nautical Centre Vis for donating the tickets to the Modra špilja.
The tradition of Red Cross is long on Korčula, as the organization was founded there in 1916. Even before that, before Red Cross formally came to Korčula, during the Balkans wars, people of Korčula collected help for the soldiers and victims of the war.
Korčula/Orebić Red Cross chapter is one of 125 in Croatia, 4 in Dubrovnik-Neretva County, it has two employees and has for the past decades been the centre of activity in life of the islanders, and a pillar of humanity and solidarity. In addition to two permanent employees, they count 60 permanent volunteers, around 30 young people are included in the activities. Local community finances them, and allows to work, organize various activities and invest some into thanking those who deserve to be thanked on various trips and other fun activities.
