For the third time ever, the interdisciplinary popular-science project "Natural History Week Korčula" will be taking place in Korčula this week.
This year there are some changes, as a newly-started group of natural sciences enthusiasts took on organizing the event: Adriatica, Association for the research and preservation of the biodevirsity of the Mediterranean. Key organizers are Milan Vojinović and Tamara Crnac.
Thus far, the activities of the Natural History Week Korčula were focused on the speleological and biospeleological research of the underground karst phenomena, interdisciplinary research into the protected areas such as Badija islet, Hober park and Kočje reserve, as well as research into the agrodiversity and biodiversity of the flora, mushrooms as well as fresh- and sea-water fauna.
This year the activities are expanded, especially in terms of education, as the main goal becomes the promotion of the values of natural sciences in general population of the island, helped by the participation of numerous experts from Croatia and abroad. Main activities will include field research of the island, educational workshops and lectures for the children, lectures for the adults, educational walks in Hober park and Kočje reserve, exhibition and demonstration of rope climbing on the Revelin tower.
Lectures will be taking place this week, mostly at 5 pm, and the guided walks in the Hober park and the Kočje reserve will be held on the weekend, at noon. For the latest information and updates, follow the Korčula Tourist Board Facebook page or the event page.
