Lopud island

Nestled between Kalamota and Sipan islands, this “island in the middle” with its size of only 4.63 square km offers a Mediterranean oasis of peace and tranquility in full sense of that word. Tourists hordes go to this second largest island of the Elaphiti islands to see the bay of Šunj where the magnificent pebble beach can be reached by a small path across the island that takes you up the hill and then down through the woods. It takes 15-20 minutes by walk, but for those who prefer not be too physically active during the vacations, there is a tourist wagon.

To reach Lopud island, there is a regular small ship line to and from the Dubrovnik Port of Gruž.

In the former Republic of Dubrovnik, Lopud maintained its reputation of providing the best sea captains, among which the most famous was Miho Pracat whose statue was erected in the Rector’s Palace in the Old Town. Although Pracat was not of a noble family, Dubrovnik Senate decided to honor his good deeds in life, such as donating all his wealth to the Republic, and placed a bust of a plebeian (commoner) in the atrium of a highly respected institution, which was very uncommon at the time.
