Maritime Museum

At its height, Dubrovnik was a Mediterranean merchant maritime power, a rival to Venice in the 15th and 16th century, and it is no wonder there is a museum dedicated to the glorious days of one of the leading navies in the maritime world of the time.

Situated in one of the key points of the Dubrovnik City Walls, the fortress of St. John also known as Mulo Tower, Dubrovnik Maritime museum houses objects, paintings and documents related to the maritime trade and tradition of Dubrovnik Republic. The story of the world famous merchant navy is narrated by displaying many atlases, maps, navigational instruments, archeological finds of sunken ships, parts of equipment etc. In addition, a unique Dubrovnik Aquarium at the ground-floor featuring Adriatic fauna specimens in 27 basins is not to be missed.
