In a series of pre-season clean up activities, EKO Mljet is one in a line of Dubrovnik-Neretva area ecological actions to end in success!
As DuList reported on the 1st of June, 2017, the traditional three-day eco-cleaning of the island of Mljet was organised for the 14th consecutive year by the HRM Volunteer Association from Split and the Mljet based Aquatica-Mljet diving center.
The ecological action, one in a series of actions which aim to raise local awareness about the need for environmental care lasted for three days, from May the 26th to May the 28th, it included 35 divers from Croatia, neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany who readily cleaned the underwater in various locations on the stunning island, from Sobra bay, the Solin channel, the island of St. Mary, Gonoturska bay, the bay of Blace, Lastovska bay, Lokva bay to Pomena.
During the selfless action, approximately 30 cubic meters of waste was removed, most of which was plastic - an item known to be particularly hazardous to a great many sea animals including dolphins and turtles.
The implementation of EKO Mljet 2017 was made possible by: the Municipality of Mljet, Mljet Communal, Adriatic Luxury Hotels (Hotel Odisej, Mljet), NP Mljet, JVP Mljet, Delta LLoyd Life, Riba Mljet d.o.o., DNŽ Port Authority and of course, the good-hearted population of the island.
