The timeless legacies of two incredible European playwrights come together in honour of the 450th anniversary of the death of Marin Drzic.

The House of Marin Držić and its tireless director, Nikša Matić, are never short of ideas when it comes to keeping the spirit of the life and the works of the legendary Marin Držić alive and well in the hearts and minds of all generations in Dubrovnik.

On this occasion, the spirits of the Olde English playwright, William Shakespeare, undoubtedly the most respected and well known playwright of all time, and Marin Držić, the Dubrovnik (Ragusa) native considered to be the greatest Croatian playwright ever to exist, were brought together as part of a long, full and creative program marking the 450th anniversary of the talented Držić's untimely death (1567 - 2017).

Selected scenes from one of Držić's most popular and most famous comedies, Dundo Maroje, were performed by the extremely talented members of the Midsummer Scene Festival in English language, alongside renaissance music in the priceless ambience of Dubrovnik's beautiful Sponza Palace.
