Mayor Franković New President of Firefighting Association Dubrovnik

The salaries of Dubrovnik firefighters might soon be raised to match the dangerous conditions of their job

Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Franković was elected as new president of the Firefighting Association of the City of Dubrovnik at a meeting held on Tuesday at the seat of the Public Fire Brigade 'Dubrovnik Firefighters', reports Glas grada on July 19, 2017.

The mayor announced the City of Dubrovnik will enter negotiations in a couple of months in order to decide on a new collective agreement for the Public Fire Brigade, with the goal of raising firefighters' salaries to equal those in governing bodies of the City of Dubrovnik.

Franković also drew attention to the significance of firefighting when it comes to the safety of both people and property, a fact we've all witnessed in the last couple of days after a large number of emergency interventions across Dalmatia. Franković said that the City of Dubrovnik doesn't only need a well-equipped fire brigade, but also an adequately paid one - the firefighters' income needs to match the extremely dangerous job they do.

Apart from Mayor Franković and the commander in chief of the Public Fire Brigade Stjepko Krilanović, the meeting was also attended by Daniel Guischard, the commander in chief of the fire brigade of Bad Homburg, a sister city of Dubrovnik. Guischard thanked Franković and Krilanović for the long-running successful cooperation of two sister cities, and especially for the active collaboration between the two fire brigades.

The latest project to be successfully carried out as a result of the mentioned cooperation is the investment into the Fire Department building on Osojnik. The project was funded by donations and coordinated by the longterm friend of Dubrovnik and philanthropist Olga Stoss. The department is expected to open in a month.
