July 21, 2020 - More than 600,000 tourists are currently staying in Croatia, some counties have a 60 percent occupancy rate compared to the same time last year, and by the end of the year, the result could reach 40 percent of last year, Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli said on Monday.
"Today we have almost 600,000 tourists, mostly foreigners, and there are about 90,000 locals. Croatia is a safe destination no matter what happens," Cappelli said after a session of the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) on Slobodna Dalmacija.
Greece, he said for comparison, currently has only seven percent of turnover compared to last year.
On the other hand, Croatia has over 50 percent of its turnover in July compared to last year, and more than 30 percent at the level of the previous part of the year.
He pointed out that in some counties, such as Istria and Primorje-Gorski Kotar, more than 60 percent of arrivals are realized compared to last year. According to him, the tourist workers are well prepared for the epidemiological conditions in which they work. Currently, as he said, 75 percent of the available nautical charter is operating, while in August, everyone will work at one hundred percent capacity.
Cappelli is in favor of more rigorous epidemiological measures in order to achieve the results we expect with a reduced number of infected people, that is, to prove that we are still a safe destination.
He pointed out that the decline in the number of domestic tourists is only 13 percent, and that most continental destinations have traffic of more than 60 percent compared to last year, and family farms on the continent work even better than last year.
He stated that the prices of tourist services were reduced in a number of destinations, on average, by 10 to 30 percent.
"I claimed that the first good reaction of the economy will be in tourism, and that is what is happening," said the minister, adding that this year there is a minimum of seasonal workers coming from outside Croatia, i.e., that domestic labor has been withdrawn.
At the session of the Tourist Council, additional financial resources for the needs of crisis communication were approved. It will be aimed at continuous monitoring of the market situation, in order to quickly and timely inform the target public about all new changes in the travel segment, with an emphasis on Croatia as a safe and accessible tourist destination.
"Today we have provided additional financial resources for crisis communication activities in foreign markets. Quality promotion and placement of targeted messages are extremely important in these market circumstances when many countries are fighting very hard for each guest. With these financial resources, amounting to one million kuna, among other things, we will focus on intensified monitoring of the entire situation with an emphasis on communicating accurate information on the epidemiological situation in the country," said the director of HTZ, Kristjan Stanicic.
Stanicic also said that from Friday to Sunday, almost 300,000 arrivals and 1.8 million tourist overnight stays were realized in Croatia.
The members of the Tourist Council also discussed the situation on the markets and the course of the season, and it was emphasized that in the current part of July, from July 1 to 19, about 1.4 million arrivals were realized, which is 53 percent of last year's result achieved in the same period, and 9.6 million overnight stays, which is 56 percent of last year's result achieved in the same period.
The largest tourist turnover came from the markets of Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Austria.
Stanicic also stated that additional funds will be used for PR activities in the domestic and foreign markets, and that additional funds were found through internal redistribution, within the HTZ budget.

July 20, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik and Pula.
Croatian Aviation reports that British Airways, a member of the OneWorld alliance, will significantly increase the number of weekly flights to destinations in Croatia from August.
From August 1, the company will increase the number of weekly flights to Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik, and will restart flights on the route London - Pula. All British Airways flights are operated from London Heathrow Airport, so flights to Dubrovnik (which operated from Gatwick) were transferred to Heathrow.
The London Heathrow-Zagreb route currently operates three times a week, but from August 1, British Airways will fly between the two cities daily.
The London Heathrow - Dubrovnik line started operating on July 16, also three times a week, but from the beginning of August, this line will also operate every day of the week.
The London Heathrow - Split route began operating four times a week from July 9, and from August 2, there will be as many as nine weekly flights on this route (every day of the week, Monday and Sunday, two flights a day).
British Airways will re-establish scheduled flights on the London Heathrow - Pula route. Due to the epidemic, this line has not yet operated in this year's summer flight schedule, but from August 1, two flights a week will be introduced, every Tuesday and Saturday.

July 20, 2002 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Dubrovnik.
Croatian Aviation reports that at one point, the Turkish national airline had open sales on the Istanbul - Dubrovnik route for August, but now, there are no longer flights on offer.
Turkish Airlines launched a line between Istanbul and Zagreb in early July, and it currently operates in a reduced form, only five times a week.
The second line of this well-known airline in Croatia is the service to Dubrovnik, which operates throughout the year, and in winter with a smaller number of weekly flights. In the summer of 2018, there were as many as 11 weekly flights on the line between Istanbul and Dubrovnik.
The company stopped traffic on this line during the pandemic and has not yet established traffic on it again. Given that the start of traffic has been delayed several times, there is a very high probability that Turkish Airlines will not return to Dubrovnik Airport so soon.
Direct flights on this route are now available for booking from September 1 this year, but, just as was the case with Emirates and the Dubai - Zagreb route, which was completely canceled for this year, there is a very high probability that the same will happen with this line between Dubrovnik and Istanbul.
Thus, we will have to wait and see what will come of the Turkish Airways routes to destinations in Croatia; Dubrovnik and Zagreb.

July 19, 2020 - This weekend, 60,000 passengers from many destinations are expected to arrive at the Split Airport and city port, which is 30 and 45 percent of traffic, respectively, compared to the same weekend last year.
Net.hr reports that Jelena Ivulic from Jadrolinija in Split said that 40,000 passengers with ten thousand vehicles will enter the city port across the three weekend days, that they are at 45 percent compared to the same weekend last year and that their numbers are increasing. The interest of passengers to go to and from islands is not waning, so this weekend they organized 12 regular lines to Brac. As an announcement of a good weekend, on Friday, there were two extraordinary lines for Supetar.
"This weekend, we will still have three regular lines to Vis, two to Vela Luka, six to Stari Grad, and the same number to Solta. We also offer three state catamaran lines for Hvar, and as of Friday, two more commercial lines. In any case, we are rising as far as traffic is concerned," Ivulic said.
As for the airport, 20,000 passengers are expected on Saturday and Sunday, who will land or take off in 135 planes. The head of the Reception and Dispatch Service at Split Airport, Mate Melvan, says that among those planes that will touchdown at the Resnik runway, 35 are private. All these planes come and go to a total of fifty European destinations.
Melvan said that their turnover this weekend is 30 percent compared to last year, but in total, they expect that July will have an average of 20 to 25 percent of 2019.
"The first weekend in July we had ten thousand, the second weekend 15 thousand, and now this third weekend, we already have 20 thousand passengers. You can see the growth trend because our traffic is increasing every weekend. We can see that the number of passengers is rising from the data that we had 26,150 passengers in the whole of June, and only in these two weekend days we will have 20 thousand," claims Melvan.

July 19, 2020 - In the corona era, an increasing number of Croatian renters are choosing to advertise their holiday rentals in Facebook groups and on Viber, avoiding intermediaries and various agency fees.
Zadarski.hr reports that vacant holiday apartments are abundant along the Adriatic, and because discounting accommodation prices is inevitable, Croatian renters are trying to reduce their costs by advertising for free on Facebook.
And in an effort to save every euro, holidaymakers are also searching for the best possible prices via social media, hoping to book directly from the renter, as it is the most cost-effective, for both the guest and the apartment owner, without intermediary commissions.
Facebook group 'Apartmani, sobe... Hrvatska (iznajmljivanje)' has almost 120,000 members and serves exclusively to offer or demand accommodation. It is one of the most active on Facebook at the moment, with, for example, the group 'Apartmani 2020. Tražim/Nudim', which has more than 74,000 members.
Both offer a handful of available apartments and are viewed mostly by local guests or those posting their accommodation. The group Croatia apartments - Kroatien Ferienwohnungen has more than 40,000 members, with advertisements in English or German, and commenting on prices is punishable by removal from the group. Advertising of other Facebook groups and promoting anything unrelated to renting/booking accommodation in Croatia is not tolerated, while advertising of travel agencies is also prohibited.
Facebook group 'Apartmani Hrvatska – Apartmaji, FeWo, Vacation rentals, Case vacanze' combines free ads "for all who rent, book, buy or sell apartments, rooms and other types of accommodation", and has been joined by more than 14,000 members.
There are countless search options on Facebook, the most widespread free tool for contacting renters. However, a group has also been opened on Viber that allows you to search for the most affordable holiday options and last minute offers on the Adriatic coast.
In the Viber group 'Croatia Last Minute Deals', you can find information about last-minute prices of individual accommodation, get in touch directly with the renters and bypass the commissions of intermediaries. The group has gathered more than 2,000 members in a few days, and is backed by well-known communication expert and PR strategist Kresimir Macan and Paul Bradbury of Total Croatia News.
"Paul and I went to the Slovenian border on May 17 to see who could enter Croatia, because there was a lot of misinformation, after which we launched a Croatia travel update so that foreigners could be informed promptly, with valid information before arriving in Croatia. Since May 17, Croatia Travel Update has been opened more than 100,000 times, so we then opened the community koronavirus.hr, which at one time had more than half a million people. We then opened Croatia Last Minute Deals on Viber in an hour at my office. We do all this without money, voluntarily. We are doing it to save the season and we feel like we’re doing something good. The two of us work the most and we have two interns helping us. And why are Viber communities simple? Everyone has Viber and everyone knows how to send messages... We even have stickers. We were contacted by a woman who filled all of her apartments in this way. Here, we are fulfilling the promise of HDZ that it will create a platform for people to rent without a commission," Macan said with a smile.
In the Viber community 'Croatia Last Minute Deals', Macan notes that anyone can enter and leave the group whenever they want. And it is continuously growing.

July 19, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Zagreb and Rijeka airports.
Croatian Aviation reports that Emirates, a renowned Dubai-based airline, has canceled all flights on the Dubai-Zagreb route for this year.
Before the outbreak of the pandemic, Emirates planned to launch its seasonal route from Dubai to Zagreb with the first day of the summer flight schedule, at the end of March this year. For obvious reasons, this did not happen, and the start of the line was delayed several times. The last plan was to launch the line in September this year.
As this is a seasonal line (it operates only in the summer flight schedule, until the end of October), it was to be assumed that Emirates will not come to Zagreb this year, which has now been confirmed.
Namely, the company canceled all flights on the said route, withdrew sales on all dates, and currently offers flights from Zagreb only in the summer flight schedule in 2021.
Emirates connected Zagreb with Dubai daily, using a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which was also the largest wide-body passenger aircraft at Zagreb Airport. With the complete withdrawal of Emirates from this line for this year, Zagreb was left without wide-body aircraft. Recall that Korean Air, Air Canada Rouge and Air Transat also canceled flights to Zagreb and used wide-body aircraft to operate them.
In the winter flight schedule on the Dubai - Zagreb line, FlyDubai should return with a B737-800 aircraft, but this will depend on epidemiological measures and travel restrictions.
Emirates canceling this line is another significant blow to Zagreb Airport traffic.
Croatian Aviation also announced that Croatia Airlines will still launch a direct line between Munich and Rijeka, according to Rijeka Airport.
Although Croatia Airlines previously closed sales on this route and has not operated on it since the beginning of the pandemic, the company has now released tickets on the direct route between Rijeka and Munich.
The Munich - Rijeka line will operate twice a week, every Thursday and Sunday, on a DashQ400 aircraft, from August 6 to September 27 this year.
This is certainly good news for Rijeka Airport, but it is a smaller number of weekly flights (previously operated on Tuesdays), and given that the route has been announced until the end of September, there is a possibility that it will not operate in the winter schedule, which has been the case so far.
As before, the aircraft will first operate the Split - Munich flight, then Munich - Rijeka - Munich, and then the return flight Munich - Split. The flight schedule remained the same, with the morning departure from Munich to Rijeka, while the return flight to Munich was scheduled shortly after noon from Rijeka Airport.

July 18, 2020 - Can you enter Croatia? An online service that tells you yes or no, as well as telling you what you need.
One of the many lessons I have learned helping to run the Total Croatia Travel INFO Viber community is that so many people ask the same question. And if you could provide the answer to that question in a simple format, the questions would disappear.
Meet TravelDoc.aero, a fantastic service which answers one of the most common questions we receive - can we enter Croatia, and what documents do we need?
And not just for Croatia, but for the whole world.
Simply enter your basic details. Where are you starting from and where do you want to go? Where were you born and when?
We checked out the system with a mythical American citizen wanting to visit Croatia - see the details above.
This is the response we got, which is 99% accurate. The only slight thing I would amend is that there is no requirement to fill in the Enter Croatia form, but it is strongly advised. Here is why.
Apart from answering the common questions about coming to Croatia, the site also offers the option to check out other countries. One of the common questions we get is whether or not Americans can visit Italy after Croatia. The answer is no - USA is not on the EU Safe List of 12 countries and so travel to the Schengen zone is therefore not possible. Croatia is still not in the Schengen zone but is in the EU - it has decided to allow travel fro tourism pending a negative PCR test no more than 48 hours or 14 days self-isolation, as well as proof of paid accommodation.
To check out if you are eligible to visit Croatia at the moment (or anywhere else), check the TravelDoc.aero website.

The Netherlands - as of July 21, Croatia is placed on the "Orange" list by the Dutch government, which means that both the Croatian nationals and the Dutch nationals returning to the Netherlands from Croatia are strongly advised to self-quarantine for 14 days.
July 18, 2020 - The latest news from around Croatia’s airports for flights to Croatia with updates from Split and Zadar.
Croatian Aviation reports that Russian Aeroflot has announced the launch of its seasonal line between Moscow and Split. There are currently no announcements about the start of traffic on the line between Moscow - Zagreb.
The Russian national airline, which normally operates throughout the year between Moscow (Sheremetyevo Airport) and Zagreb, and between Moscow and Split in the summer flight schedule, has announced it is resuming traffic to Croatia.
From August 1, the direct line between Moscow - Split will be re-introduced, which will be in traffic every day, with the A321 aircraft, which has a capacity of 183 seats in the fleet of this airline.
At the moment, there are no announcements for the line between Moscow and Zagreb, and all flights that were supposed to take place in August have been withdrawn from sale and are not in the announcement.
Aeroflot has announced a significant change in its business in which the company will focus on intercontinental flights, while subsidiaries Pobeda (a low-budget company) and Rossiya Airlines will take over other routes from the destination network. At the moment, there are no announcements about a change of carrier on the line to Zagreb, but it is likely that Aeroflot will soon implement its plan.
Recall that until the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, Aeroflot operated daily between Moscow and Zagreb, both in summer and in winter, while flights to Split operate only in summer.
Furthermore, Ex Yu Aviation reports that Jet2, the low-cost carrier which was supposed to launch services from London Stansted and Manchester to Zadar this summer, has delayed the service until 2021.
Jet2 was initially scheduled to begin on May 21, though it has been delayed several times. Operations from Manchester and London to Zadar should begin on May 23 next year.

July 17, 2020 - FlixBus proves once again that it is an essential segment in the development of Croatia's tourist offer with the addition of new destinations.
HRTurizam reports that by re-establishing a green network throughout Europe and connecting Croatia with numerous European destinations, FlixBus returns as a crucial member to bus passenger transport this tourist season.
Although Flixbus is not welcomed by the ministers of the Croatian government, in line with the increased interest of passengers traveling in the direction of Kvarner and Istria, FlixBus is introducing new destinations from July 17 and increasing the frequency of departures.
Rijeka, Crikvenica and Opatija are additionally connected with Munich and Berlin, and passengers have day and night lines at their disposal that connect Pula, Rovinj and Rijeka directly with Vienna and Budapest, while on the route Prague - Rijeka, they are looking for more seats.
˝FlixBus, as a strong European brand, thanks to its wide network, high frequency and affordable and quality service during all these years, has established itself as an important segment in the development of Croatia's tourist offer. And in these challenging times for all of us, we strive to respond positively to the needs of our passengers for travel and to update our offer while respecting all safety measures constantly," said Ante Grbesa, director of FlixBus CEE South region.
The cities of Istria and Kvarner are currently connected with Slovenia, Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Direct connections with destinations such as Ljubljana, Maribor, Munich, Berlin, Prague, Vienna or Budapest provide passengers with easy access at affordable prices, and Rijeka, along with Zagreb and Split, is the most frequent hub of FlixBus this season as well.
HRTurizam writes that perhaps the Croatia National Tourist Board could see this opportunity to advertise open lines to the same markets through cooperation with FlixBus. Apart from being a European brand and an extremely extensive network, this year, Croatia's advantage as a car destination has been expressed like never before.
Until this year, the increase in the number of tourists arriving from abroad by FlixBus buses, from season to season, has grown by up to 80% to certain destinations. The FlixBus green bus network extends to 29 European countries and connects 2,000 destinations with 350,000 daily lines.

Last updated on March 2, 2021 - As Croatia announces another major change to the rules regulating entry to Croatia, we will continue to monitor the situation and include as much of the confirmed information in our FAQ. However, it's important to keep in mind that this article has not been fully updated with all of the currently relevant information.
The situation continues to change rapidly, but the questions and the confusion remain. In this article, we will try to provide clear answers to some of the most common questions asked in our Total Croatia Travel INFO Viber community.
One other major resource for additional information regarding travel to Croatia in 2021 is our main TCN Croatia Travel Update, updated with the most relevant information daily.
If you have any relevant information or experiences which can add to this resource or the TCN Croatia Travel Update, then please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Subject Update
1. Can I enter Croatia and do I need a test?
The answer to both those questions is "most probably".
You are allowed to enter Croatia if you're a citizen of the EU/EEA (EU 27 + Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, as well as Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and the Vatican) or a non-EU citizen with an EU residence permit (or a member of their family, with documents to prove the kinship), no matter where you're arriving in Croatia from.
If you're arriving from the ECDC "Green list" region, and you can prove that you haven't stopped anywhere between that Green list region and Croatia and you show no symptoms of the disease and have not been in a close contact with an infected person you don't need a test. If you're arriving from a country listed on the so-called EU Safe List (as of October 22, 2020, the list includes Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Uruguay, and China + Hong Kong and Macao), and you can prove that you haven't stopped anywhere between that Green list region and Croatia and you show no symptoms of the disease and have not been in a close contact with an infected person you don't need a test.
Everyone else (there is a list of exceptions, which mostly includes those in transit, leaving Croatia within 12 hours, persons traveling for necessary family or business reasons and patients traveling for urgent health reasons) needs to present a negative PCR test, not older than 48 hours (from the time of sampling until the time at the border crossing), or get tested immediately upon arrival in Croatia (at the travelers expense), and self-isolate until they receive a negative test result (up to 10 days).
Third-country nationals (non-EU, including the UK) will be allowed to enter Croatia under the same rules if they're arriving from the EU/EEA region, but need to show the reason for entering Croatia if they're arriving from a third-country. Seafearers and persons travelling for urgent personal/family reasons and business reasons or other economic interest will be allowed to enter if they present a negative PCR test, not older than 48 hours (from the time of sampling until the time at the border crossing), or get tested immediately upon arrival in Croatia (at the travelers expense), and self-isolate until they receive a negative test result (the self-isolation measure is issued for the period of 10 days). Passengers in transit from the third-countries will not be required to show a negative test result.
On December 14th, it was publicly announced on the Croatian police website that the travellers who can prove with the medical documentation that they've had COVID-19 in the last three months are allowed to enter Croatia without having to take a PCR test or self-isolate.
PLEASE CONSULT OUR ARTICLE WRITTEN ON NOVEMBER 30 FOR MORE DETAILS.
For more details read the comprehensive Total Croatia Travel update.
2. Does it have to be a PCR test?
Yes.
There is no age exemption from testing by Croatian authorities, all kids have to have a negative test. Croatian Border Police will accept your results via e-mail too, not just hardcopy. They'll provide the exact e-mail address for you to use at a border crossing. They'll insist on hardcopy if the test is from Serbia or Bosnia and Herzegovina because of many forgeries.
For more information on where to get PCR tested internationally before coming to Croatia, please read our article.
3. What if I cannot get the test in time before I leave?
If you arrive at the Croatian borders without a negative test, you will be given an official self-isolation measure, for the next 10 days. You can either go straight to your place of stay in Croatia and wait the 10 days out while self-isolating, or you can take the PCR test for SARS-CoV-2, at your own expense, in Croatia.
As of December 10th, 2020, once you have the negative result, you will have to send the results to the Croatian Border Police station which issued your self-isolation order (not to the epidemiologist in charge, as was the case before this most recent change). The border police will then remove you from the self-isolation list, and you are free to travel.
4. Where can I get tested in Croatia?
https://www.total-croatia-news.com/lifestyle/44737-get-tested-covid-croatia
>For any additional info regarding testing in Croatia, you can find the list of contact numbers on official koronavirus.hr website.
5. Is a Domovnica enough to allow me to enter Croatia without a test?
As of December 1st, there are no exceptions for Croatian citizens regarding the rules of entry into Croatia - the rules for the Croatian citizens are exactly the same as they are for any other EU citizens. So, having Croatian documents won't allow you to enter without a test. It might help if you're a third-country citizen (in addition to having Croatian domovnica), so have it handy if possible).
Domovnica is proof of your Croatian citizenship, so you can enter Croatia unconditionally any time, but it is in Croatian and it is not a travel document. We have had several success stories with this. One thing that seems to work is a confirmation letter of your Croatianness from your embassy or consulate, in English to corroborate the Croatian text of the document.
6. Who needs to show proof of booked accommodation?
Rules applied as of December 1st don't mention anything about booked/paid accomodation. Answers 6&7 will get updated when more information becomes available.
All arrivals who are not EU/EEA/UK or non-EU citizens with EU residence permits. Important note: if one member of the family is EU/EEA/UK or non-EU citizens with EU residence permits the entire family is allowed to enter, no matter what passports others have. It is crucial you're able to prove legal status, by showing a marriage certificate and other supporting documents for family members.
7. If proof of booking acceptable, or does it have to be proof of paid accommodation?
In most cases, proof of book is acceptable, but the official wording is proof of paid accommodation. To be on the safe side, book, and pay for at least one night.
8. Who needs to fill in the entercroatia.mup.hr form?
Filling in the form is NOT mandatory, but it is recommended to all non-Croatian residents. Its purpose is to process the border as quickly as possible and to enable the authorities to contact you in case of an outbreak, Special Enter Croatia lanes have been introduced at some borders. The average processing time if you have filled the form is 30 seconds, and about 5 minutes if not. Many in the community comment on the lack of documentation checks when they arrive in Croatia. This is because the police can see all the information when they scan your passport or ID you entered on enterCroatia.mup.hr. Learn more about the form.
If several family members are traveling together, you should create just one form for all of them. One person should submit the form, while the rest of the family should be added under "additional passengers".
9. We plan to stay in Croatia in different locations, changing addresses. Do we need to edit the form? What if our plans change while we're there?
It is critical you enter your first location correctly, and your estimated time of arrival and departure (not longer than 90 days from entry). Once you're in Croatia, there is no need to update dates and/or locations if something changes, or you just move around Croatia. That is also true if you decide to stay longer than you estimated when you originally filled out the form - there are other systems in place, and you don't need to worry about your entercroatia.mup.hr form.
10. Can I self-isolate at my accommodation? What are the rules of self-isolation and how are they enforced?
Yes, but if you are given an official self-isolation measure by the epidemiologist or border police, you have to provide proof of paid accommodation for the duration of the period, because you have to stay in one place for the entire self-isolation time. Official self-isolation epidemiological measures advise that you stay in your accommodation ALONE or in a separate room with separate toilet, to isolate you from the others, since you are presumed to potentially carry the virus. So you are not supposed to leave your premises at all (except for the testing purposes, but strictly only if wearing a mask) – food and other necessities have to be delivered to you, without contacts. It also means police will check from time to time are you self-isolated at the address you gave them; if they don't find you there, they can fine you (around 1000€).
11. Can I transit flying from the USA and other countries outside the EU through a Schengen country?
Yes, but you must have a ticket for a connecting flight to the final destination in Croatia in order to transit Frankfurt or Amsterdam for example. When possible, you should have a printed ticket for your connection to facilitate transit. If you do not have an onward ticket to a connecting flight, German federal police will not let you enter the country. You will not be permitted to leave the transit area of the Frankfurt airport, no matter how long your layover may be. It is also important to make sure your bags are checked all the way through the final destination at the starting airport. If not you have to have some notify them to get your bags for you ahead of time at the connecting airport as you can not do that yourself.
We now have confirmation from our community that it's possible to transfer through the Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Zürich, London, Warsaw, Amsterdam, and Istanbul airports on your way to Croatia. At Amsterdam and Istanbul airports you can also get a PCR test done, while in transit. Transfer through CDG Paris is also possible, but as of July 27 they are requesting a COVID-negative test, not older than 72 hours, even for transit passengers (click here for more information in English). Find out more about the conditions at the Warsaw Airport by clicking on this link.
12. Which documents do I need to present when traveling from any third-country (including the USA and Canada) to various officials, from the boarding agents at different airports to the Croatian Border Police - how do I do my homework right before traveling to Croatia?
Well, you really should come prepared - with both the paperwork and patience! From what we've been able to gather from our Total Croatia Travel INFO Viber community, your biggest obstacle might be to convince the boarding agents in your home country that you are, in fact, allowed to enter Croatia. Having a printout of the IATA guidelines will certainly help, as will the confirmation of paid reservation in Croatia. If you have Croatian citizenship, make sure you have proof of that at hand as well (domovnica or any other similar document), especially if you're traveling without valid Croatian passports. If only some members of the family are Croatian or EU/EAA, bring with you the marriage certificates and/or other documents proving relationships with other members of the family, to make things easier for them. If you've decided to announce your arrival through http://entercroatia.mup.hr form, make sure you have a printout of their confirmation mail. If you contacted bit.ly/CroatiaTravel or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., the printouts of their response might help as well. Of course, if you've gotten tested, have the results or any type of confirmation that you've taken the test handy as well.
The members of our Viber community shared with us that the e-mail address for the police at Frankfurt airport is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and that they're very responsive and helpful - so if you need some help in Frankfurt, you should probably write to them.
Good luck! And let us know how it went in our Viber Total Croatia Travel Info group!
13. There are PCR testing facilities at Schengen airports. Can I do my test there?
If you are already in the EU and flying from those airports, YES you can. But, if you are in transit from an international flight and not allowed to enter Schengen countries (pls check Re-open Europe to see if you are allowed to enter) then NO. Make sure you check all these details with the airport and facility. Let us know if it works!
For example, US citizens are not allowed to enter Schengen for time being, but Canadians might be - so the US citizens can not test in transit, but Canadians just might be able to do so!
We can now confirm that the US citizens can get tested at Amsterdam airport, as well as at Istanbul airport.
14. Can I enter an airport and get a hotel in a Schengen-zone airport if I have a long stopover?
If you are not permitted to enter the Schengen area, then NO. Check details for every EU member country on REOPEN EUROPA site https://reopen.europa.eu/en. For overnight layovers, there is one hotel in the transit zone in Frankfurt, for example, the My Cloud (+49-69-69030380, https://www.mycloud.de/en/home/ ).
15. Can I stay in Croatia for 14 days and then move on to some EU Schengen country?
Schengen is closed to US citizens, but open for citizens of 9 countries right now (Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Uruguay, China + Hong Kong and Macao). The situation is, again, changing very rapidly, and rules everywhere are getting stricter, so before travelling make sure you check the details for the country you are interested in on the REOPEN EUROPA site https://reopen.europa.eu/en. Germany has placed several Croatian counties on their high-risk list, which means that all travellers arriving from those counties need to either self-isolate or get tested. The German authorities seem to be very responsive (especially Franfurt airport border police: This email address is being protected from spambots. Austria has placed Croatia on their "high-risk" list, meaning that, in order to enter Austria, you must have a negative PCR test (not older than 72 hours), or self-isolate until you're able to get tested there, within 48 hours of arrival.
