Jakovlje Castle and Sculpture Park Organizes Welcoming Event

Jakovlje Castle is located in Jakovlje, a village north of Zagreb, on the other side of the Medvednica mountain, 30 km by road from Zagreb.

One of the most prominent structures in the village is the Jakovlje Castle, originally built in the 16th century, and destroyed and then rebuilt numerous times during the past four centuries. There were fires, there were earthquakes, there was neglect, but finally in the 2000s, the castle was somewhat completely restored.

Since the 1970s, the castle and the park around it have been owned by the Croatian Association of Artists and the Croatian Association of Artists of Applied Arts, and many artists have their studios in the castle. The art colony that was organised there for years produces numerous sculptures, and many of them found their permanent home in the castle's park, where they were originally created. Over sixty sculptures by Croatian and international artists are exhibited there, and the Croatian Association of Artists is organising an event this week to present the project that has been being carried out at the sculpture park and Jakovlje Castle since 2013, as well as to present their plan of activities until 2021.

The event has a very artistic name, Na zemlji od oblaka, loosely translated as Down to Earth, Made of Clouds.

They want as many people to come so that the general public would see what they've been doing and what their plans are. They also want more people to see the amazing park and the castle that appears to be a ramshackle, which adds to the romantic feel of the place.

The 63 sculptures located in the historic park should be visited by lovers of art, and some of the sculptures were given a new look recently, as they were (re)painted. The park is a perfect place to spend a day surrounded by greenery, and it's probably going to be more pleasant than the asphalt of Zagreb on yet another hot early-summer's day. So, make a picnic basket, get your family or friends together, your pets, and spend a day in the art park of Jakovlje Castle this Saturday, July 6th.

In the evening, at 6 pm, you will be able to enjoy a concert by Darija Zlokić, a flute player, and Mirjana Krišković, a harp player, both members of the Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra.
