Modern Gallery (Moderna galerija)

By 27 January 2017

Modern Gallery is an art gallery located in the historic Vranyczany Palace, overlooking the beautiful Zrinjevac park. The gallery is home to one of the biggest and most comprehensive collections of works by Croatian artist from the 19th and 20th ct. The estimated number of paintings, sculptures, graphics, and various other objects, is around 10,000.

The idea of opening this kind of gallery appeared in 1905, it was open for public viewing in 1914 (only as a room in today’s Museum of Arts and Crafts), and it wasn’t until 1934 that it moved into its present-day location. The Palace, dating back to 1882, underwent complete renovation between 1993 and 2005, when the current exhibition was put on display.

In addition to the works on display at the Palace, there are some other works in a secondary gallery – Josip Račić Studio at Margaretska 3.
