See in Zagreb

Zagreb Walking Tour

By 30 January 2017

This 150 min tour starts at the heart of the city - Ban Jelačić Square, where you’ll hear the background info on Croatian history, and then walk towards the Cathedral, the tallest building in Zagreb.

After you’ve experienced the majestic tranquillity of the Cathedral, to keep things in balance, you’ll continue to the most vibrant part of the city - Tkalčićeva Street, and see its many bars and cafés.

Next on is the funicular ride which will, in less than a minute, take you from the lively Ilica to the historic Upper City, with magnificent view of Zagreb. You’ll see the Lotrščak Tower and hear about the cannon which disturbs the city’s pigeons (and frightens the tourists) every day at noon. After that you’ll continue on your way towards St. Mark’s Church, whose colourful roof you’ll instantly recognize if you’ve seen any postcards of Zagreb.

You’ll then pass by the Croatian Parliament and reach the only remaining doors to the city, which used to have defence walls around it. The Stone Gate now has a chapel inside and is a place of quiet reflection where people come to pray and give thanks to Our Lady of Stone Gate.

When you walk through the gate you’ll hear interesting stories about Zagreb witches and the Brotherhood of the Croatian Dragon. Your guide will then walk continue walking towards Ban Jelačić Square, where your tour will finish.

This is a wonderful opportunity to get to see all the interesting landmarks in central Zagreb and hear fascinating stories about its history. The price starts at 20 per person, including the funicular ride, and you can book it here.
