Handball Fan-Zone Tent on Zagreb Main Square

By 16 January 2018

Now that January is very much upon us, and the celebrations of another extremely successful Advent season are also subsiding, Zagreb’s Ban Jelačić Square hasn't had a lot of time to be empty...

On January 12, when the EHF Euro 2018 European Handball Championship was open and team Croatia played their first game in Split, a tent appeared on the square which will be there to host the fans who want to watch handball in public, with their friends and strangers alike, but are either unable to travel to other places where the games are played, or would rather steer clear of the Arenas themselves for different reasons.

As the so-called “main round” games of the tournament are approaching (those are starting on January 18th), which will be played in Zagreb and Varaždin, the atmosphere will get more heated in Zagreb, more and more fans for all participating nations will either stay or pass through Zagreb and having one place in the centre of the city that is aimed at attracting them certainly makes sense. The entrance to the tent, of course, is free; there are food and beverages provided by some of the same people in charge of the Advent organisation and there will be entertainment in the evenings between the matches, to create a more cheerful atmosphere.

And one thing is for sure: some people, including some belonging to “Zagreb’s Finest”, have already started feeling the atmosphere in the tent, as you can see in the video below, taken during the Croatia-Serbia game played on Friday in Split.
