It all started in late 2012 when Jelena Mikin and Jelena Iva Nikolić wanted to introduce their friends to people who produce organic and natural food, so they organized a little market in Jelena Iva’s attic, and got the idea for the name of their project: Mali plac s tavana, meaning the Little Market in the Attic. Both the sellers and the buyers were extremely satisfied with this get-together: buyers because they could finally meet the people whose food they buy and find out exactly how it was made, whereas sellers saw this as a great opportunity to present their work and spread the word about their produce.
More and more people started attending the Little Market, so it had to reclocate from the attic and into the city. The locations kept changing and so far they've included Cafes U Dvorištu, Marlene, Potepuh, Jutro, hostels such as Swanky Mint Hostel, clubs like Katran, and various other interesting locations around the city.
Since being outside during the cold Zagreb winter is not the most pleasant thing, the Little Market has been held in Branimir centar for the past couple of months, but the plan is to move it back outside as soon as the temperature goes up and the sun comes back.
Go out this Wednesday, visit the not so Little Market in Branimir centar (4 p.m. – 9 p.m.) and use this wonderful opportunity to do something healthy for yourself and buy organic food and vegetables, honey, pasta, olive oil, and natural cosmetics or even dog treats for your four-legged friends, which you can also bring with you because the market is pet-friendly.
Follow the Market's Facebook page and visit their website to learn more about the sellers and their produce, or subscribe to the newsletter to stay informed about all the latest events.
